<p>I, too, will put my money with SLight. I just looked at the naviance scattergrams for two high schools’ applicants to UVa. In each case, (weighted) GPA is an almost perfect predictor of whether the student is admitted. Unless essay quality happens to be very highly correlated with GPA, I must conclude that GPA is the most important determinant.</p>
