Chance and guide a 10th grader?

<p>Hey guys. I am a tenth grader and I dream about attending the ivies quite so often. Can you all let me know if I am on the right track? Here are my statistics:
Schools follow the ‘IB Middle Years Program’:</p>

<p>9th Grade:
Subject Score: 73/77 (94.85 %)
Personal Engagement Score: 77/77 (100%) </p>

<p>10th Grade
Subject Score: 73/77 (End of Semester)
Personal Engagement: 77/77 (End of Semester) </p>

<p>Extracurriculars: </p>

<p>1) I have authored a popular science book which is due for release during late February or early March. I have written the entire book and it is currently in the process of being edited in collaboration with me and some editors from the publisher’s side. The manuscript of the book had to follow typical submission procedures and was selected amongst thousands of other potential manuscripts.
2) I have initiated several community and service drives and have been a part of several school “Reach-outs” to the underprivileged. I have gained 50+ Hours of community service in the last three years. I have also started a concept which involves selling notes and academic material to my friends and then donating all the money gained from this to help the underprivileged.
3) I have designed an entire Access-based system intended to support the attendance and grading requirements of my school. This project is currently in the stage of its implementation under which I’m now considering working with a group of highly talented programmers in my school to implement the system successfully.<br>
4) I have written extensively about science and current-world affairs in a local teen magazine known as “Shout” and “Teen Ink”. Acclaimed articles in these included my efforts towards unraveling the mysteries of the brain and considering future inventions with the science behind them.
5) I have been playing basketball for over 7 years and attended an international tournament in the UAE, representing my school with the U-18 basketball team. I was the youngest team player at 14 during this trip. I have attended over 10 basketball tournaments in recent years and expect to play state-level basketball one day.
6) I have a passion for debate and talking which makes a Model United Nations fanatic. I wasn’t allowed to participate until high school began and since then I have attended numerous conferences. I won the Best Delegate award in the St. Petersburg International Model United Nations held in Russia. I won the first prize in the elocution contest 7th Grade held in my school. My love for speaking and debating has also showcased my talent for theatre.
7) I designed the cover for and paginated the student’s school magazine. I love graphic designing.
8) I am in talks with a drive known as Future Sights India which strives to formulate a predicted unfolding of events for the Indian sub-continent. Currently, the project has been halted due to funding difficulties but it is likely to resume soon. My job in this project will involve creating Internet-based platforms to extract the opinion of the future put forward by the young population in India.
9) I have been involved in a recent theatre production in my school for which I wrote and edited the script, handled all the technological aspects of the production and did sound editing/designing to support this production.
10) I have attended several swimming competitions for my school and have been a passionate swimmer for over 9 years now.
11) Got admitted at EPGY summer to study Cosmology. </p>

<p>What I aim to do:

  1. Write two more popular science books.
  2. Attempt State Level Basketball.
  3. Attempt the Physics Olympiad
  4. 2000+ SAT
  5. A year-long research project starting on my eleventh.
  6. Another big Community project involving physics.</p>

<p>Awards:

  1. Academic Excellence in several subjects.
  2. Several Learner Profiles (academic and performance awards)
  3. Best Science Fair Project 2012 (Gold) ( Interschool)
  4. Math Whizkid of School in the 6th Grade. (doesn’t count in apps)
All of these were in the ninth grade (except the Science Fair). (waiting for this year’s award distribution).</p>

<p>Why are you even worried? That is a very nice profile. Do make sure your grades are extremely high.</p>

<p>You are well on-course to admittance at a university of your choice :)</p>

<p>Not to put down your achievements, but colleges don’t really look at academic stuff before 9th grade. Still, if keep receiving awards like that, you’ll definitely have a really good chance. :)</p>

<p>BTW, do you go to Ecole Mondiale by any chance?</p>

<p>JAB, sorry for replying so late, I’ll do my best to elucidate what I know.</p>

<p>Firstly, let me start off by saying that our extracurriculars are somewhat common. Especially the part where you sit for long hours in a publisher’s office  Anyways, your grades look good and so do your extracurriculars. How things will play out for you will depend on the following things:</p>

<p>[ul]
[<em>] How you manage to maintain this level of performance throughout grades 11 and 12.
[</em>] How well you manage to “sell” yourself, or in other words, how you “make” your application.
[li] How your perception changes.[/li][/ul]
I feel the need to elaborate on the last point. As you research more about colleges in the US, you might find other universities to your liking. Do not be so focused on the Ivy League that you fail to recognize other better institutions. Most of the schools in the Ivy League are famous because of their graduate schools and this recognition and brand-name trickles down to the undergraduate schools. For example, if you choose to do engineering, you might realize that Harvard isn’t the best place in the world for you.</p>

<p>If I might be of further help, don’t hesitate to PM me :)</p>

<p>tastycles:-Nope. Is that in Delhi? Not heard of it back here in the capital. </p>

<p>Tizil7:- Thanks for all of that information  Yeah, I plan to do my major, unique extracurriculars starting the junior year. I will definitely look at all other potential universities, and try my best not to develop a stereotype. Thanks for all of that amazing information and great feedback. BTW,I never sat in the publisher’s office :stuck_out_tongue: just posted them the manuscript. </p>

<p>Johndoe7today:- Thank you for the feedback :)</p>

<p>Hi justanotherboy! I have the same aspirations as you have  - to do undergraduation in stanford!
currently I am in the 10th grade in India and looking for info on EPGY program. planning on applying for 2014 summer program. I am not planning to write any of the standardized tests as I understand EPGY does not require them. I am interested in particle physics and will be able to provide some work samples by 2014. Is that sufficient? what other credentials will help with acceptance? Is there any other summer program in other US universities that would NOT require standardized test scores? Any help with this info will be appreciated. Thanks :)</p>

<p>^^ Dhayaa EPGY@Stanford does have Standardized tests as preresiquites:
[EPGY</a> Application Admission Requirements](<a href=“http://epgy.stanford.edu/applyandregister/appl_materials.html]EPGY”>http://epgy.stanford.edu/applyandregister/appl_materials.html)</p>

<p>I have also wanted to enrol in the program, but can’t as I didn’t give the standardized tests yet.</p>

<p>@anishbasu A section of EPGY application for international students specifies that it is not mandatory. Some of the members on this forum say that too!</p>

<p>@Dhayaa I contacted them, and they said that I can just send them the ICSE marksheet, but decided not to go as the cost of the program is too high for me, and they don’t offer Financial Aid to internationals(like me).</p>

<p>^Whaaaaat?
As far as I know EPGY Offer aid to Internationals , though I am not sure if this is course specific</p>

<p>@mathsoul Yup, I held a small correspondence with the EPGY Admin. I can provide you with the email where it was said:

</p>

<p>^ Which program did you apply to?</p>

<p>I know about only the EPGY Mathematics summer programs (my username says it i guess :P)</p>

<p>@mathsoul I applied for CS courses.</p>

<p>Can you all please fill me in on these EPGY courses? I have never heard of them on CC before. I just started class 11th, i already know TONS of electronics and robotics ( my quadcopter just took of  )</p>

<p>@Robots156 Cool Project, I also wanted to make one, but it was to pricey for me :(.
As for the Stanford EPGY Course, it’s basically like an online high school, only part time.
I’m also in class 11, Nice to meet you!</p>

<p>Nice to meet you too :D</p>

<p>The thing about quads is that every time you fly it, you will break something, unless you are a great flyer, so it becomes ultra expense!</p>

<p>Is there any major advantage of taking this w.r.t. university admissions? Its damn expensive when KhanAcademy is free :P</p>

<p>@Robots156 I have personally taken to Coursera, which is free and is taught by current Stanford Professors. Plus, they give certificates.</p>

<p>good extracurriculars so far. But please do tell me what you like the most… any specific branch… Cause That will really decide( and should decide) the choice of university. Also IVY League is just a small part of US Universities…be more broad minded.</p>

<p>@quiver This post was necro-bumped. :)</p>
