I agree with a poster upstream. If @cgro27 is happy to attend ASU, then the rest of their list can be anything they want it to be.

Would you choose NC State or OSU over ASU, especially considering the expense? If not then why bother? Maybe pick one as a backup plan.

If you have no cost constraints why not CMU? Georgia Tech too. Atlanta has 4 seasons. Summer can be oppressive but you wouldn’t necessarily be there in the summer.

Yeah I’d just rather leave the state, but I didn’t consider CMU cause I was thinking it would be too hard to get into, while georgia tech is in atlanta, which is hot. Considering I already have a very good 100% admission do yall think I should apply for more reachy/ higher target schools instead of likelys.

I am wondering whether you should consider U.Mass Amherst. I doubt that it would be much different from ASU in terms of the quality of the program, but it is quite good, is in an attractive location, and it does give you a chance to leave Arizona while traveling at least reasonably close to a tech hub. The tech companies around Boston/Cambridge/routes 128 & 495 certainly hire a lot of graduates from U.Mass Amherst.

The amount of reach/target/likely applications depends on how many options you’d like to have beyond ASU next spring. Have you visited any schools? Are you ok with having a single option? The applications for reach schools tend to have a lot of essays.

If it were me, I’d probably want to have a handful of options when decision time comes next spring. But if you’re rock solid with ASU being your fallback, shoot for the moon.

CMU Acceptance rate is probably about a little over 10-11%, but much higher if apply ED.

Georgia Tech’s OOS acceptance rate for Engineering was 7% (27,923 applied, 2,009 accepted) this last cycle. OOS all majors is 9% (45,830 applied, 4,122 accepted). EE OOS acceptance rate this cycle was 5% (3,430 applied, 173 accepted).
