Chance Me - 91% UW GPA, highly competitive GA HS, 1520 SAT for Duke ED, GATECH EA, UNC EA, UVA, UF, NYU, UMich, UT Austin [3.7 GPA, business / finance]

Let’s have future responses addressing the OP’s questions, please. Off-topic discussion is inappropriate in this thread.

Bottom line - we don’t even know if Emory is the #2 choice.

OP shouldn’t be pressured into applying ED2.

OP should apply wherever is the true #2 school and that they are willing to pay for (whatever it will cost them, need or otherwise) - regardless of admission stats.

But if there is no true #2 or they’d rather spend on UGA than any school being mentioned here, then they shouldn’t apply to an ED2.

A student will spend four years, day after day on campus.

So I don’t think an ED2 should be chosen based on best odds but rather, I want to be there and it will assuredly get me to my end goals.

OP knows about ED2 now so they can determine if it’s a strategy they want to use or not.

Emory ED should be a Target here for OP.

Unfortunately I don’t think so with the uwGPA/B’s, regardless of legacy. ED2 is difficult to predict because that is the round that schools often have no idea what apps will be coming in, so they tend to be quite opportunistic in choosing their ED2 admits, matching them up to various institutional priorities.

Let’s wait to hear from OP if their S was accepted to GA Tech on Friday (that would likely change the rest of the list/recommendations/need for more safeties beyond what OP has already said.)

Obviously if OP’s S gets into Duke ED he is done. However, I would encourage OP’s S to get the rest of their RD apps in rather than wait until hearing from Duke and/or winter break (if he hasn’t already submitted them.)

Emory ED just seems like a good option. Last cycle they accepted 31% of their ED1 applicants with many being test optional. First members of the Class of 2029 celebrate, reflect on ‘record-breaking’ ED I cycle - The Emory Wheel

If OP’s S applies ED at Emory, it will be ED2, as they already applied ED to Duke

Emory’s ED2 acceptance rate last year was only 10 percent - which is why I said it would probably be a waste of an ED2 application.

It just isn’t a tougher admit than Emory for in state students.

I also think no SAT score is going to make up for those Bs and a place like Duke or Emory in particular isn’t going to be dazzled by a strong SAT without the grades to back it up.

It depends what you are trying to accomplish. Prior to understanding the transcript, I may have agreed. At this point, odds would be lower than the ED 2 percentage which I do not believe is as high as you are implying.

Last cycle. It’s in the above Emory link.

Dec. 11, 2024. Emory accepted 995 individuals under its Early Decision (ED) I policy with a 31% acceptance rate.

Disagree. Apples and Oranges. According to the CDS only 63% of their admitted students in 2024-2025 cycle submitted test scores with their applications. Again, I think OP has a good chance at Emory ED, however as the above poster stated, it’s moot since they have another ED application currently at another school.

Emory ED2 is probably too high of a reach for this student. While ED1 acceptance rate was about 30%, the ED2 rate was 10% last year. Anyway, i dont think the mom said Emory was a top choice.

Yes but ED 1 includes athletes and others assured.

ED2 likely doesn’t.

Overall it was 974 of 4193 or 23% so that would tell you ED 2 is much lower.

More likely is a deferral and wait list.

1437 enrolled. Know how many they WL? 6098.

Yes 109 got off but it’s criminal. Of those offered about half accepted the WL.

So unfair to do to kids.

hoping OP comes back. All this discussion may be irrelevant to them.

So let’s table the analysis of ED2 Emory data until OP has a follow-up.
