Chance me and Match as a student from NJ [3.7 UW, 1420 SAT, biology or neuroscience]

Pretty much only honors college students get merit at Rutgers, and they’re usually Val’s/sals. They are not generous, I only know a few kids from our NJ HS who were offered merit (and they’re turned down much more selective schools to attend Rutgers for that reason). My higher stat merit chasers were offered merit at almost every university they applied to, except Rutgers (and weren’t surprised).

Didn’t know this, so I’m prob going to pay 30k a year then for Rutty (if I stay home of course)

I am not sure if we are going around in circles, and I apologize if we are.

I would use the NPC for schools that meet full need but that are not as competitive as Cornell. Schools such as Lafayette, etc mentioned above.

Would your parents be ok with these schools if the cost is less than Rutgers?

Alright that makes more sense, I might go to Newark if its less competitive. But I’m going to focus on my supps, and school work rn though.

I might not do Drexel BSMD or NJIT supps since its due this week and I’ve haven’t started the NJIT honors. I would also go to Rutty over NJIT.

I also got Stevens BSMD prompts due the 15th so I have to focus on that.

Make sure to also apply to Rutgers main campus. You can decide when all decisions are in.

This was mentioned earlier- Rutgers has a genetics major and 3 certificates within/in addition to the major. While genetic counseling and cancer research (2 certificates) are not considered plan bs, the third certificate might be, if you are interested: computational genetics.

That would not work if your goal is direct patient care.

Np, I think tsbna and me discussed this.

My parents said no to Lafayette for some reason (they didnt give one), but I will talk more about it with them.

I think they will be fine if costs are less, but they prob want me to go to Rutty if the school isnt ivy bound or a bsmd

It will be under $30,000 if you commute, I believe room and board are $15,000+.

Are we talking about rutty or lafayette

Rutgers.

Yeah I have mentioned that on another comment. I’m probably going to stay at home since its 15 minutes away

So it seems your parents are ok with an Ivy, Rutgers, or a BSMD? Would they be ok with you living at a school like Rowan, for example, if it is not BSMD?

What does “Ivy bound” mean?

Also curious why you keep saying “Rutty”. I’ve never heard that before.

You’re not a cool teen

I am definitely not

But none of the cool teens I know in NJ use that term :person_shrugging:

No lol

Ivy bound- T20s or LACs

Idk, thats what we call it in our hs

I worry about money. You need loans. You can only borrow $200k including med school.

You need to plan for that now.

That’s why I suggested community college.

I never want to say never but if you need loans for undergrad it is unlikely you can attend med school short of one of the free programs etc.

Forget Ivy Bound - look at the Lafayette, Dickinsons of the world. If they come in cheaper than Rutgers, you need that.

So you would be expected to commute to Rowan or TCNJ?

You need schools like Dickinson, Lafayette etc if they come in at less than Rutgers.

I agree that you need to forget “Ivy bound,” but I am not convinced that your parents will. Apply if you must, but these schools should be last.

TBH I am confused. It seems your choices are “Ivy bound,” BSMD, or Rutgers as a commuter.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, other than Rutgers (rutty) I would be living at the college.

For example, Rowan
Would I get into the regular school for Rowan (yes)
Would I get into its BSMD (prob not but i can pray) → If accepted though, I would go and live there.

But if I was only accepted to its regular school, I would choose rutty over it.
