Thank you
You have a 3.7 and 1420. No pain no gain on Princeton but I think youâd be better served by reaching to more reasonable reach meets need schools like Rochester, Lehigh, Case Western, Miami, Lafayette if they hit budget. Still improbable but not impassible as Princeton is.
Good luck either way.
RPIâs EA application is free⊠easy to do.
Thanks for responding.
You have to apply EA or priority at public universities since they fill their class then.
Rutgers, NJIT, TCNJ, Rowan should all be done by Nov 1.
Will you apply to the Genetics major or Biochem
You should automatically be invited to apply to the Honors College (as long as you are admitted by Jan 31).
If you have a Fall break, use it to work on applications?
Oct 20-Nov3, apply to SUNY Buffalo and SUNY Albany - the application is free that week. Thatâll save you $100. Perhaps add SUNY Geneseo and either Bing or New Paltz, and save another $100. (Itâs the same app for all).
I am going to do Biochem, but Ik Rutgers let you decide if you get into the Arts and Sciences school
Iâll do it too, but I do not see myself choosing RPI then Rutgers
Yes, I will also do the SUNY schools, but I do not have a fall break but I do have a winter break
The free app period is strictly Oct 20- Nov 3 so get your apps in by then. Once tour ED1&EA apps are in, you have Nov1, 2, and 3 to finish and send. ![]()

Would you prefer NJIT and Rowan over RPI, too?
If so, no need to apply to RPI, especially since without the medal its a very long shot financially. You have very little time left, spend it wisely especially if you donât have a Fall Break!
Yeah, I prefer NJIT and Rowan over RPI, and have no interest in going to RPI.
Ok, so no need to apply to RPI.
Focus on Rutgers, TCNJ, Rowan, and NJIT.
Rowan is really growing for science and you qualify for automatic invitation to the Honors College (doesnât mean youâll get in but it does mean you meet the academic baseline they want to see, the rest will be up to you through your application, ieâ, are you academically curious, are you an interesting person to have in a seminar and on campus vs. someone whoâd just sit and never participateâŠ)
NJIT has a well-funded Honors College. They look for students who are top 10% of their HS class and have ~1500 SAT but they consider lots of profiles as long as youâre excellent at sciences, civic-minded, and interested in a global outlook (study abroad and away, daily life impact of science in various regions of NJ, the US, and elsewhere in the world).
TCNJ has this
See whether other universities have something similar. You could also email admissions to ask (this would likely be considered âdemonstrated interestâ.
Good suggestion. The other alternative is to check the collegeâs Common Data Set, Section C7. TCNJ, for example, says flat out that Level of applicantâs interest is important.
Yeah, this is a really late response, again, sorry for that, but my counselor did suggest Princeton because my weighted GPA was decent.
Great!
Ok. I donât see it but. It wonât hurt. Itâs a lot of work.
The thing with weighting is all do differently so itâs hard to say - your 4.5 is better or worse than another 4.5. Some are on a 6 point scale - as an example. But as you have Rutgers and Rowan, as long as each is affordable, it doesnât matter. Or Rutgers and whichever other.
The 25th percentile for P is 70 points above you so I think TO would be wiser. On the other hand, you need a score to validate the low gpa. 77% submitted so thatâs another reason you need a score. But itâs going to hurt you so ⊠Iâd go TO but thatâs me. Perhaps if your score is well above the school average (like itâs sub 1000) it can add value.
Not sure what the list looks like now but good luck.
^ very good point
@Kingo
Whatâs your schoolâs median SAT score? Or the range?
Apply to Princeton RD to give yourself time to prepare a good application and in the meantime focus on the Rutgers, Rowan, NJIT, apps as well as the 5 free SUNY apps, all to be in by Nov 1.
My schoolâs SAT average is 1380, and Iâll give this thread an update on my list on Saturday, as I have a lot of schoolwork.
Alright, thank you, but what is TO?
Test optional. How you need to apply to Princeton.
I would rather you spend your time on a Lafayette or F&M. If the NPC works, those give you a chance at high fallutinâ.
I see zero hope for Princeton. Your SAT alone will keep you out if you submit. But it will keep you out if you donât.
But - itâs fine. Do you have the graded paper needed with teacher comments ?
But you can only go to one school so itâs fine. Iâll disagree with the counselor tho. I donât think you are close. Hopefully Iâm wrong.
I agree^.
You have to be honest with yourself and know Princeton is not in the cards.
Your score would be within range for Princeton if your schoolâs average were 810, meaning your score made you a once-in-10years academic wonder.
You are a topnotch student so youâll be admitted to many schools, but not Princeton and that type of colleges. Apply RD if your parents make you but focus on reaches that are reachable like Rutgers, Case Western, F&M or Lafayette as suggested above.
The priority right now is Rutgers, Rowan, NJIT, and TCNJ + 5 SUNYs (suggestions have been made above as to which ones. Albany, Buffalo, Geneseo, New Paltz and probably Bing would be no brainers IMHO due to their excellent academics and residential environment but not all offer the tuition match or you might prefer going home every weekend from Stony Brook.)
November 1 is in two weeks. ![]()
Then as soon as youâre admitted work on the Honors college/programs where those exist (Rowan will invite you to apply because you meet the academic baseline but most will just expect you to take the initiative, kind of as a screening mechanism.)
Thank you for the update on Saturday. Itâs very thoughtful of you.
Weâre rooting for you - Iâm hoping that out of the 9 above youâll get into 6 or 7 or even more! After that, anything else would be cherry on the cake. ![]()
