I agree, but I don’t feel that applying ED ll to BC is a waste. There aren’t many other schools that offer ED ll. I’d rather go to so. Only NYU, maybe, but that’s my only other thought for ED ll. However, I feel that my chances at NYU are slim to none, so in my opinion, that would be more of a waste.
NYU offers Chemical Engineering at its Tandon School campus.
They are both difficult admits. Statistically NYU might be a bit tougher but I don’t think markedly so.
I do think the environments are very different.
Up to you.
I’m just a believer in if you have a possible major, attending a school that offers it is a must -and i’m not a fan of 5 year programs for the same degree.
It’s all up to you - best of luck.
I agree; the problem is I feel that the applicants at NYU are more qualified than me, and NYU also receives triple the applications that BC does. NYU’s median SAT last year was 1540; there’s no way I can compete with people like that. We will see what happens with Cornell tomorrow, and then I can start strategizing from there.
for tomorrow !
4 hours to go. Decisions released at 7pm EST!
Good luck!
Best of luck!
Fingers crossed , regardless of outcome you are impressive!!
I regret to inform everyone that Cornell just rejected me. It’s okay since it was my biggest reach from the start, but I can’t deny that it stings a little.
Well, now, onto planning for ED ll and RD.
So we know one school you won’t be donating to when you are wealthy.
Don’t let it bother you in spite of how normal it is for it to sting. They don’t know you beyond a few words on paper. You are more than that and should be confident other great schools will see it that way.
Hang in there more to come and you are far from alone.
Thank you for the kind words. I’m just doing some soul-searching right now. I feel worried that maybe I’m not good enough to be competitive for top US schools and that RD applications will be similar to this outcome.
Hotel is very very much a fit school at Cornell. I wouldn’t extrapolate the strength of your application based on that decision.
No one can honestly make that call. My suggestion (and I went through this with a kid) is think through your application and update, edit, and amend anything you think can be improved upon. Then review your broader strategy and make sure you have colleges that span the selectivity spectrum so you can feel confident about worst case scenarios. Lastly, use your GC if possible to be a sounding board for advice that is informed about how kids from your school with your numbers place.
It will work out but the uncertainty will suck!! Don’t doubt yourself and control the situation in the ways available to you.
You’re right, but I don’t know what I could have done better. I poured my soul into writing those essays and got as good grades as possible while taking the most challenging classes my school offered. I’m active in my community, have played high-level sports, and I’ve done summer programs. Where I live, my opportunities are incredibly limited. My school doesn’t even have student government. Maybe they didn’t like my personality? I don’t even know what to think. Sorry for the rant, lol.
It’s ok to mourn this decision for a day or two, but then you must move on. And you will.
Do NOT take this denial personally…it’s not a reflection of your personality, or you as a person. It is merely a numbers and institutional priorities game.
Good luck to you and keep us all updated. We are all rooting for you.
College decisions are not personal. You have a fantastic resume. The hotel school is very much about a focus in hospitality. It’s a unique school and really isn’t predictive of how you will do with admissions elsewhere. You will land somewhere great!
The reality is - these schools are very hard to get into.
And it’s not necessarily anything you did wrong.
And when you’re on a website like this, you may seem so announce they got in - but most didn’t.
You have a perfect GPA. It sounds like you have rigor.
You didn’t have a test but Cornell is test free.
There’s sometimes no rhyme or reason.
It’s likely nothing you did.
As far as essays, etc. they are subjective. What one loves another might not. There’s no way to know how yours was seen and no reason to over analyze it.
You have a list of other schools of interest we discussed yesterday - and the one that ultimately gets you will get a unique and talented individual.
And when you look back years from now, hopefully wherever you attend, you’ll look back at some of the fondest years of your life.
It just means that for now, Cornell isn’t meant to be…but then it’s their loss, not yours.
Good luck.
Thank you, everyone; you guys are making me feel better about myself. Well, rather than making everyone feel bad for me, I will ask about my ED ll situation. Would applying ED ll at BC or NYU be a better decision? I like both, and NYU has the Tandon school, but I like my chances at BC a bit more. I like the size of BC more, the focus on UD teachings, and the location.
My suggestion…apply ED2 to the school you want to apply to. Forget about what anyone here thinks. It will say…it sounds like you like BC more than NYU.
At the same time…get ALL of your regular decision applications submitted. If you get accepted to BC, you can withdraw any pending applications.
With highly selective colleges, if you do not (or do) get accepted, you will never know why.
Have you already applied regular decision to public universities…which you can do with ED? (As long as you weren’t applying ED to any).
I hope you have some sure things for admission on your application list!
You’re right; I am leaning toward BC over NYU. I guess it’s just kinda FOMO that makes me feel like I should ED ll at NYU. I have already applied to 7 UCs (Berkeley, UCLA, Irvine, San Diego, Santa Barbra, Davis, and Riverside), The University of Washington, UT Austin, and the University of Minnesota. For safeties, I’m going to apply to ASU, U of A, Penn State, UMass Amherst, FSU? (more of a target), and GW (Target). If you have any suggestions, I’m open to hearing them!
