Chance me for Cornell ED (international, Indian)

I’m an Indian female with the following stats:

Class Rank-1
SAT 1- 1500 (800M, 700RW)
SAT2 subject: Will be taking in November, confident about obtaining 770-800 in both Math2 and Physics

Common App Essay and LORs are amazing.

ECs/Activities:
Vice Captain of the school in grade 10
Student council all four years
Editorial board two years
Editor for region’s biggest MUN conference, international.
Done a couple of reputed MUNs as a delegate, won awards in all of them.
Founder of the school’s Vitiligo Club
Contributed to the execution of philanthropic events in school.
Rank 2 in all Union Territories of India in the National Science Talent Search Examination
Member of the Junior Academy- NYAS
A lot of school awards and Olympiad medals (state/national (a few))
Was among the top 30 percent kids worldwide in the Breakthrough Junior Challenge
Participated in NASA’s Space Settlement Design Competition

I intend to pursue Mechanical/aerospace engineering. I’ll be applying to Cornell ED. What are my chances?

Your ECs and scores are impressive and in the range for Cornell.

Cornell will look for consistently high academic achievement in all four high school years. Also, they require 2 SAT subject tests so I trust you have confirmed that sitting the SAT subject tests in November is acceptable for an ED application, noting that Cornell’s ED deadline is Nov 1?

The risk with the top schools like Cornell is that not only are they selective but further, international students make up only ~10% of their total admits. Cornell’s overall acceptance rate for the class of 2022 was 10.3% and international students made up just 9% of the class. Have a look at the 2022 class profile of Cornell here: http://news.cornell.edu/stories/2018/03/class-2022-selected-record-number-applicants - it may give you some insight.

All the very best.

Do you know other fellow mates who applied to Cornell ED from India? Can you share their stats without opening their names.

Also Keep us informed of your admissions result.
Good Luck.

Update: My SAT2 scores just came in. I scored a 790 on the physics test and an 800 on Mathematics 2

@akcha1801 Are you applying to CoE? Yours looks like a very impressive profile!!

@Iridiscence Thank You! and Yeah! I have applied to the College of Engineering, intending a CS Major!

Nice profile akcha.!!

@retro-rally Thank you so much! I put in a lot of work into my ECs, really hope I get in

@akcha1801 you are a boy or a girl? if you dont mind asking me that

Arghhhhh decisions out on Monday! Do you guys think I might get in???

you got a great shot for sure @Iridiscence

@Iridiscence Did you apply ED? Subject tests were due by Nov 1, so not sure which scores of yours they took or if they accepted your November ones, so that’s a tough call. Your SAT is amazing though, but being an international student is makes it harder of course and I can’t tell but it looks like you want to do Engineering, but do you have any awards in Engineering as it looks like they are mainly in Model UN (MUN)? Maybe I’m missing something. Also do you have an AP courses, as that seems to be important to them too to give credence to your #1 ranking.

Anyway, I’m not an admissions person and neither is anyone else on here, so at the end of the day, it’s really a question of what they’re looking for. But your scores are phenomenal.

Hard to say your Common App Essay and LORs are amazing because it’s all relative. You can’t really be the judge of your own work, and you shouldn’t be seeing your own LOR so you don’t really know if they are “amazing”.

But regardless, best of luck, as if it’s not Cornell, you should definitely get into some amazing school with those scores! I know people in the ME/Aerospace Program there and they LOVE it.

Hmm I’m not sure how being international and a US citizen factors in. If you were not a citizen, a big factor would be if you are full pay. If you were a non citizen asking for aid would definitely diminish your chances.

@retro-rally I am a guy :stuck_out_tongue:

@Iridiscence IKR! It’s incredibly frustrating and tense these few days.

@akcha1801 okay, do you know more people who applied cornell ED

@retro-rally yes, I know 2 other people who have applied ed to Cornell

@akcha1801 can you share me their profile,… like stats, ECs…etc

@retro-rally Have you applied ED to Cornell?
