Chance Me for Princeton, Tufts, and Purdue 25-26! [international in Delaware, 4.0 GPA, top 1%, 1550 SAT, <$40k]

I can attend Udel <20k because I do qualify in-state (paid taxes 2+ years) and based on my stats, I will get a lot of merit aid as well. Past international students from my school with similar profiles have got around 15k merit aid at Udel. So I have a home.

Good. Scroll down here and you’ll see merit. I’m not seeing $15k for in state but sounds like you got this.

Best of luck wherever you end up. That you have a safe landing is most important.

Please confirm that you qualify for instate tuition with UDel directly and that you aren’t basing your information on previous international students from your school. Things are unfortunately different now.

This is what I’m seeing for U Del:

"An applicant shall not qualify for in-state residency classification if any of the following is true:

  1. The applicant is an alien in this country on a student or other temporary visa, or for a stay of short duration with the intention or legal requirement to return to the country of former residence."

If that isn’t you, it looks like you need to be instate for three years, not two:

"1. SPECIAL RESIDENCY RULES APPLICABLE TO APPLICANTS SEEKING PERMANENT RESIDENCY/U.S. CITIZENSHIPStudents who are not U.S. citizens who meet ALL criteria below, while classified as a non-resident, may be assessed in-state tuition. The person on whom the classification depends must also meet all other criteria normally required to classify a student as a resident:

  1. The applicant attended a Delaware high school for at least three years; and
  2. Graduated from a Delaware high school or received the equivalent of a diploma (GED); and
  3. Resided with parent(s) or legal guardian(s) while attending a Delaware high school; and
  4. Enrolls at the University of Delaware within 18 months of graduating from high school; and
  5. Provides appropriate evidence of application to seek U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. The person on whom the classification depends (parents/guardians in the case of dependent students; the student him/herself in the case of independent students) must also meet all other criteria normally required to classify a student as a resident. See Section IV, and Section V, for more detailed information."

I have been in DE for 4 years, and I have talked with the financial aid office at UDel and they have confirmed I will be considered in-state.

I think that you are a competitive candidate for Princeton, Tufts and Purdue. You have demonstrated your skills in the academics and related activities; your essays, supplements, and perhaps to a slightly lesser extent, graded written paper (as required) are critical in making yourself to stand out among your peers of high achievements.

As a reminder, Princeton’s informal motto is "In the Nation’s Service and the Service of Humanity”, do frame your words around these ideas, as examples, how have your math tutoring experiences shape your outlooks, how do you, as an international student attending HS in the states view “solv[ing] real-world problems with math”.

Just double-checking that they know what visa you are on? Because the earlier quote made it sound like visa students do not qualify for residency. I know it says “temporary”, but in the eyes of immigration any visa is temporary including H visas. I’m not sure if that quote was complete, but I didn’t see any exceptions based on length of stay in there unless you (or your parents) are already in process of applying for a green card.
