Also: Would UVA care more about GPA or standardized test scores?

There’s a chance forum for these posts, so we don’t really respond to them here. Check out the admission blog for the post about a holistic review and another one about GPAs. That should help!

@Dean J, out of curiosity, I followed your links and they eventually come up “page not found.” It is pretty cool that you actually post on this site.

You are out of state (oos). Recognize that this is a major disadvantage in the UVa admissions process. Im fairly confident that the oos acceptance rate is around 20%… Give or take 3-5 percentace points. So already, 4/5 people with your residential status are not getting in. However, you a “regular” applicant (i.e. Non-lecacy (who have their applicationa read as if they were in state, yet still factor into the oos acceptance rate), non-recruited athlete, non-urm (sorry, being asians arnt really a urm…)); “regular” applicants oos are probably at a much lower acceptance rate, as many of those oos admits who are the “1/5” are athletic recruits or legacies. That being said, regular people from oos DO get in, and you have a high ACT score, as well as some very nice extracurriculars. You downward GPA trend obviously isnt ideal (if you have some sort of legitimate explanation/justification for it, that could help), but as Dean J said, the UVa admissions process is holistic, so having strong involvement in your activities will definitely help you make your case. UVa is probably somewhere in the reach range for you, as it is for essentially all out of staters who cant throw a football and havent grown up hearing wahoowa from their parents, but you certainly have a valid chance.

Best of luck!
