Chance me for Williams, Washington and Lee, Mount Holyoke [international, 4.0 GPA, <$3k]

That’s wat i was trying to say, sorry :sob:

Ma’ám where did you find this infor from :sob: :raised_hand: See now I’m ashamed on behalf of the country :pensive:

I wish, the worst thing is that its an email, an email I can send from her phoone and she’s being difficult for no reason :unamused:

Got rejected from WnL so that’s nice : i find it hard to believe that they take their time to handcraft each rejection letter, but they said my rejection was “particularly hard” and that they had to reject a lot of qualified applicants this applicant pool. Not sure if they’re trying to make me feel better or smth, but I did chat with the AO whose name was signed under the letter and i won’t say we were close or anything, but something like that in the context of whatever you can call an AO prospective student relationship. It didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would cuz I got into Hollins like a day after completing my application (a few hours before getting rejcted by wash) w 40k merit aid. That leaves around 27k for my family to cover. Now… we have 4k savings/assets; 5k family members; 15k in bank loans; which leaves around 4k in private loans/ external funding). So basically I have to conjure up 4k to get an 1-20 (idk what its called, neither do I know how it works or if I’m wrong, but I think thats right). I’m really happy I applied to Hollins last minute, so even if I get rejected everywhere, I know I’m have one school with me (Their enrollment deposit is 800 usd, can you negotiate it? :sob: :sob: )

Thank you guys for everything :orange_heart:

I’m really sorry you were denied at W&L :pensive: it must be disappointing. Good for them to have crafted a personalized letter - and yes it was probably a mix of general and truly personalized because they have specific Adcoms for various regions so that one probably only dealt with internationals. So, yes, that letter was real. :hugs:
Congratulations :tada: on Hollins! It’s a solid women’s college known for smart, ambitious students so you’d fit right in.
You can probably negotiate a little more in scholarships and in terms of the deposit when it gets closer to May 1 (there are strategies we can discuss in March) but it sounds like a very big loan. Is your mother happy and onboard? Your relatives?
Hopefully you’ll have another admission that’s cheaper. In the meantime, congratulations on your admission with a huge scholarship!

Hii! Sorry for the late reply, bad network wants to kill me  Its disappointing but I’m honestly so glad I didn’t spend that 15 on the css :sob:

Most likely, was kinda expecting it but not rlly. Praying for my friend tho. Hopefully she gets in

Closer? :pensive: idk why I thought it’d be better if it was earlier  but if you say closer to may 1 then sure

I tweaked things a little bit when I was telling her so she’ll…understand better  but yeah she’s onboard. Relatives too (they’re paying 5k jointly, its been discussed)

Hopefully :pensive:

Thank you so much :sob: I didn’t actually think I was going to get one but hey, one is all I acc need. Other decisions are coming out in march/april. Maybe only sweet briar’s will come out earlier cuz of their rolling admission but internationals are only eligible for up to 15k so I’m not counting on anything

Thank you!

Closer to the deadline you have some leverage: they want you to attend and know their attendance numbers so have more pressure to offer a little more if that’s all that’s standing between your attending and your going elsewhere.
Earlier is for big scholarships, especially compétitions, but I think you already got the scholarship in question.
Do check it’s 40k per year and not total.

ohh I get it, thank you!

Best believe I made sure :sob:

I haven’t checked their website to see what other actual scholarships they have but I’ll do that ( a friend told me her friends got into UCF and he asked them if he qualified for another scholarship, they told him he did and he got some extra aid (or something like that idk. also it was a college in florida js can’t remember which one for the life of me)

Thank you

Although Hollins is probably a better choice, there’s also Truman State which should come to 20k if you have high grades. The WASCE English Language at C6 indicates English proficiency.

Or keep the reference aside just in case this year doesn’t work out.
Hoping school is going okay. :hugs:

I’ll check it out, thank you!

I am also hoping school is okay  pretty sure the only thing that mock did was show me how unprepared I am for waec  anyways results in by next week so we’ll see

Thank you!

Okay I hope the mock exams turn out better than you thought and hopefully your teachers don’t have the “let’s grade severely to push them further” philosophy :smiley_cat:

I also hope the results turn out better than expected but that other one hmm :sob: I think that’s exactly what they’re going to do cuz tell me why the pass mark is 60? (waec pass mark is 39 for context) but we’ll see

Also, there’s a why denison prompt that pumped on one random tuesday. I’ve been trying to answer it but its 200 words and thats not even a problem because I have nothing to write about, like my brain is empty. The prompt is basically asking why I applied in the first place, so I think I’m supposed to talk about one particular thing that stood out to me and istg I’m trying. I would have talked about their clubs that I would have liked to join but i don’t think thats what they’re asking/ those responses are usually for a how would you contribute essay.

I feel like you could read my essay on a club they offered and feel the detachment in the tone of the essay. So instead, I thought of writing about something they practice that their known for eg WnL is known for their honor code, then find a personal connection (visit, tour, current student) and then wrap it up by saying thats what pushed you to apply. Thats kinda what I’m going for, but I’m sufferring trying to find their niche online. It may be the excess amount of bad reviews on my google search, or that my search engine is just cursed and is not giving me what i’m looking for, but I’ve looked and found nothing. The deadline is today and I really thought I would have had something before now (Essay ideas usually pop up in my head very randomly, then I write and refine so I almost never actually brainstorm :pensive: ). Do you know anything about denison you think I can write about? Someone who does? I know its late and that’s why I won’t bother starting another thread. Any input would be appreciated greatly,

thank you!

Hi!

So I’m pretty sure my last thread has been closed and I just got waitlisted from Reed. I didn’t think my app was actually going to make it through but it did so that’s good. Um here’s a run down of all the colleges I applied to and the ones I’ve heard back from as of today…lol (this is just because on reddit I find it annoying seeing a chance me thread and then the op never states if they got in or not and then other with similar stats don’t know if they can get in or not)

Carleton - Rejected
Clark Atlanta - Going to apply
Clark - Rejected
Wooster - Rejected; aid issue (it said so in my letter)
Connecticut College - rejected :joy:
Denison - Rejected
Dickinson - Rejected
FAMU - Not yet applied
Franklin and Marshall - Rejected (watching other ppls rejection on my fyp helped a bit with this one)
Grinnell - Rejected
Hollins - Accepted; 40k merit aid
Oberlin - rejected
Spelman - Decision hasn’t come out yet
Briar - Not completed their app :pensive:
Umiami - Withdrawn
Wellesley - Rejected
Wesleyan - Decision will be out later today PT so tomorrow I guess
Wheaton - Accepted; 52k aid

I want to try for Reed but I don’t actually know what I’m supposed to do except probably pinpoint some major awards or something in the last few months and get my transcript and another lor. Anyone have ideas? I don’t usually (never) read waitlist threads cuz I’ve always known my case was going to be an accepted or rejected case but I’m doing that now.

thank you! (also outside common app but pertaining to US schools, applied to columbia chicago and LIU brooklyn cuz they were in my email with a fee waiver lol. Also columbia chicago 's total coa is like 32k which isn’t that much ( efc has gone up + Nigeria student loans (ik everyone says I shouldn’t take out loans but like… :dotted_line_face:)

let us know about Wesleyan! And your other pending applications!

Thank you :folded_hands::folded_hands::folded_hands::folded_hands:
It’s always difficult when we invest time and thoughts then… Never hear back. And it’s also annoying for future readers who are trying to figure things out themselves and are left in a lurch.
So, thank you very much, especially since it must have been hard for you. :hugs:

I would not apply now but wait till you have a solid test score since scholarships depend on test scores

:tada::tada::tada:
Congratulations

Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers:

:tada::tada::tada::tada:
If Wheaton, MA, that’s an AWESOME college. Congratulations

What’s net cost at each?
Net cost = (tuition, fees, room, board) - (scholarships, grants)

You have great acceptances. You need just one.

No doubt your issue was likely applying to need aware institutions.

I don’t see the need blind, meets need for internationals schools on your list.

If you need too much, need aware schools will simply say no. It’s not about your qualifications but how much money you will cost them.

Good luck - you have a place to go if you can afford it. And you only need one.

I hope you can afford it.

That is not completely accurate.

They might consider this when your admission decision is made. It doesn’t mean you will automatically be denied admission.

Some students with high need DO get accepted to need aware colleges..

Yes they can and may. But they can and will simply say no. And they’ve acknowledged this in articles.

That’s why an international student should also add need blind, meets needs schools when their need is so great.

Congratulations on some great acceptances and thanks for sharing!!

It is often been said on CC that if you get rejected you won’t know why. This applies to you as well, but we do know your acceptances were based on your achievements and anticipated future success.

Good luck and please let us know on the names outstanding.

Reed is a good school but is very unique and extremely stressful. Which Wheaton did you get accepted to? Massachusetts or Illinois? Two completely different schools! I hear Wheaton MA is very tiny. Wheaton IL is Christian. I assume that you don’t mind these small LAC schools since that’s all the schools you applied to. Don’t know anything about Hollins.

It’s a matter of probabilities. How many need blind, meets need for internationals, schools are there, like six? Amherst had a record number of applications this year with an acceptance rate of 7%, no doubt fueled by international applications. That’s basically the same odds of being accepted by a need-aware school, if youarean international.

But it won’t be the reason why. More than 6. But nit a ton.

We know schools like Lafayette do this. They say it.

We don’t know why someone was declined but the offers the student got were not from meets need schools.

The question for OP will be - are they lucrative enough for them to afford the schools.

I hope so.
