Chance Me! (International)

I’m currently a junior in high school, and was hoping that I could get some advice selecting colleges to apply to next year/

This is currently my list:

REACH:
MIT
PRINCETON
CORNELL
CALTECH
STANFORD
HARVEY MUDD

MATCH:
LEHIGH
DUKE
CASE WESTERN
OHIO STATE
LAFAYETTE
WUSTL
NORTHWESTERN

SAFETY:
U OF ALABAMA HUNTSVILLE

I know that the safety section is a little lacking, but I really haven’t found any schools I could put there.

I’d need high financial aid, near full tuition, preferably full ride. My entire list is kind of based around this.

I’m also an international student, so I know that my chances at these universities would be marginal at best.

Intended Major: MechE, with either a double major in AeroE or at least a minor in Aero

My EC’s:

Original research with the New York Academy of Sciences
Student at the Junior Academy of the New York Academy of Sciences
Interned at ARM
Co-founded a software company that provides free software to non-profits, and other philanthropic organisations
School captain, founder of school eco-club, school magazine committee chair
Volunteer at local ashram, year-round

Scores:
SAT 1: 1550
SAT Subject Tests: Math 2: 790
Physics: 780
Maintained A+ grade average in school till date

I’m from India if that makes a difference.

Your grades & scores definitely put you in/above the range of all the schools you listed. I would actually say that the fact that you are international is a boost to your application, colleges love saying “we have students from all 50 states and ____ countries” (not to make you into a statistic as you are much more than that!) Also, your ECs look good; make sure to write your common app essay about one of them or a common theme among them.

Good news: assuming you qualify, financial aid will be available to you at all these schools. Look up financial aid calculator to check that out.

Also, some possible safeties with have solid financial aid programs are GW, Tulane, Emory, NYU.

Thanks for the advice!! Are there any other schools I should look out for?

Do not consider Tulane as a safety. If you do not express a strong desire to go, you will probably not be accepted even with your stats.

Can Somebody please tell me about my chances with the following details:
I am an International Student, completed schooling from a leading and very well reputed boarding school in India. Academic record:
Grade 9: 9.5/10 CGPA
Grade 10:10/10 CGPA
Grade 11: 89%, top 10 of class
Grade 12 : 97% in physics chemistry math and biology cumulative,
And 95.6% including English, ranked 4th out of class of 85, and 1st in sciences out of class of 14. Came in top 1% of the country out of about 1.1 million students.
Finished schooling.
Had applied to universities for fall 2017 and also got offers and scholarships (60%) but couldn’t join due to financial difficulties.
Did not know about Olympiads due to restriction on internet access in our boarding school, when I found out, I had missed the deadlines to apply and cannot apply now as I have passed out of high school.
Sat scores: first attempt: 1360/1600
Second attempt: 1420/1600
Subject tests: 2400 in physics, math and biology
Giving sat again this October and hoping to score above 1550. Been preparing for one year.
ECA:
Was selected by an NGO for a trainee in research on CMS Collaboration program at CERN, Geneva 2016. It was more of an introduction to concepts of practical particle physics and we were trained on those concepts for one week by scientists. We were also made to construct the very first particle detectors as part of our lab and workshop work, and were hosted by Mr. Mick Storr, who is Currently Head of the CERN Academic and Technical Training section in CERN’s Human Resources Personnel Management and Development Group.

National level bronze medal in open sight shooting championship.
Gold medals in state and district level championships in Yoga and was also selected for national levels but could not go due to clashing of dates with school examinations.
Also took part in intraschool activities: cross country, swimming, athletics, debates, plays etc.
And also in interschool science quizz.

Gap year: first two months travelling north india and giving various entrance exams.
Got through engineering exams and got the best of the colleges of the country too easily. So did not join as i got them very easily and so realised that they would not challenge me intellectually.
Had already decided to take a gap year for medicine as i did not get a single medical college and so took it as a challenge to get one next year and enrolled myself for a premed course at an institution in india.
Started training myself for the ssb for navy. Decided to give it because it is extremely very difficult to get recommended for the navy as an officer, and an excellent challenge that would show me where i stand and whether my military based education helped me or not. Only 5-10 out of 300 canditates are selected and a total of about 2500 are called with selections taking place 300 at a time.Got through.
Physics is challenging, but fun and helps solve real world problems, and all tech works upon the principles of physics.therefore I love Physics.
Volunteered for vision 2047, a magazine run by the govt to make students and children aware of scientific developments, something that 90% of students in the country are unaware about.
Biggest challenge: to bring a reform in the country’s education system, which has hardly had changes since independence of our country. It is based on rote learning and not on outside class experience . I believe in Removing reservation , on the basis of caste , but keep it only on the basis of finances.
Also volunteered for an animal NGO.

So I want to know my chances of getting into a research based institution like MIT/Stanford/Vanderbilt etc. , which would also meet my 100% financial need.

I forgot to mention that I also scored 99% in both math and biology in grade 12, and that I wish to pursue biomedical engineering or physics.
I am currently distressed that i unnecessarily took a gap year as a consultant told me that since i have no research publication and social service, i will definitely not get in.
Please guide me.
