I will say that W&L was less generous than other comparable LACs for me (Wesleyan and Colby); we made under the limit for a full tuition waiver and they sent a final offer of $31k/year, we think because they counted home equity. (We made considerably more than your situation, but we had significantly less equity.) Feel free to DM if you have more specific questions.
obviously getting in through QB match would invalidate this concern
Some of these NCP waiver forms are absurd. Looking at Washington and Lee, they want me to give my noncustodial parents phone, permanent address, email, and employer, when I have no recollection of ever meeting this man and have absolutely no contact with him
Yes you can leave the parts blank that you donât know. Work with your counselor on how to answer questions where you may have to explain the situation and/or give the history. Some NCP forms will be more detailed than others. Itâs ok to contact the school and ask questions, but I know that adds more tasks to your to-do list.
Throwing out another meets full need program: The Odyssey program at Elon University. While Elon doesnât meet full need for everyone, it does meet full need for scholars in this program and The program includes a stipend for books and supplies, and a $4,000 Elon Experiences grant.
Thatâs awesome - wasnât aware - and hereâs who they want. Elon is a GREAT school @TheInquisitor1 and has been very popular for at least the last ten years, especially in the NE. I have a friend in NJ whose son starts this year.
I saw your other post about tennis and high level LACs - but these are the types of programs and yes, theyâre a long shot, but where you can really level up. And Elon isnât academically as stringent admissions stat wise, which maybe gives you a way to stand out!!
Previous students in the Odyssey Program have included students who:
Are the first members of their family to attend college (neither parent/legal guardian has completed a four-year college degree).
Have not had the opportunity for enriching educational experiences due to personal circumstances or the socioeconomic climate of their community
Have achieved success despite hardship or challenge
Will bring cultural or socioeconomic diversity to Elon
Were eligible for the Federal Pell Grant
@TheInquisitor1 - I donât know a ton about you personally but it seems like this might describe you.
Will look into it, thank you. Just not sure if Elon would give me some of the experiences that Iâm looking for; which I can find at W&L or the other schools on my list. (Ie; career opportunities, mingling with sororities)
My friend, you are very taken by marketing - rank is for magazines.
Most/ all schools have sororities - doesnât mean youâll be chosen into a fraternity or sorority and have that direct opprtunity. You also neednât be Greek to be friends with people in sororities.
I use Cornell as an example of how kids find jobs today - as itâs the kind of prestige you like. Know not how ? Cornell - very few overall report through the school or on campus or alums. Most are found through direct apps on company websites or social media - such as indeed and LinkedIn. Iâm sure itâs similar to most everywhere - Cornell is just nice enough to report the how.
You are a marketers dream. Yes some have strength beyond others. Elon is one - very connected career wise - hereâs a list of some employers. But you buy into all the hype.
Please donât take your eye off the target. Itâs a free four year education. You continue this fascination with pedigree yet at the beginning you had zero interest in LACs yet now are fascinated with W&L because someone mentioned it. Btw - go stop in random cities and ask people if theyâve heard of W&L or Elon. Itâs likely few have - many top LACs - including Williams and Amherst - are not household names.
You have a 3.65 gpa and not the strongest STEM grades. Take your shots - but donât shy away from places that may offer you a full ride which is what you need.
You continue to go back to the big name. Kids choose safeties every day over reaches. Both mine are doing just fine. Elon is a big reach for you due to the scholarship. But you are the type of person they seek.
And itâs a great school !!! And places in top firms.
You are going fo potentially miss an opportunity because you are so focused on what a magazine says.
Ps - you want to join a fraternity- you have to be chosen. Not everyone is. In some places that adds thousands of dollarsâŠsometimes many many. Theyâre not covered. Who is paying ?
Iâve done some research searching around forums about Elon and theyâre saying that it doesnât have much school spirit. Supposedly there is 0 activism of any kind on campus, because apparently it has an apathetic student body. Also, do you have to pay money to join Frats in most schools?
Itâs not just dues - itâs going to that high end beach city for your formal where you are paying hundreds for a hotel. I donât want to say Greek life in many places is for the wealthy butâŠâŠ
