Do you know any elected officials or representatives who could write a letter on your behalf? I mean, a letter from someone who knows you or your accomplishments, of course. A friend of ours (GPA barely 3.0; one AP class; 2000 SAT) was waitlisted in April but his congressman or some such person wrote a letter (he was a friend of the student’s dad) and he was accepted off the waiting list. You just need to round out your application if need be. Normally, I would not recommend this because it seems like you would be asking for preferential treatment but hey, it apparently works some of the time. I do feel you are a very qualified applicant for many schools and wish you the best of luck. You might also contact the lacrosse coach at UVA.

i disagree with all of the advice that you’ve gotten so far. your grades and SATs are just fine – well within UVA’s range. the 4 on the psych AP is just fine, too. and, i’m sorry, but mom4college’s advice that you have an elected representative write a letter is just plain silly.

you have as good a shot as anyone at uva, which for out of state isn’t that good. but, with your record, if you don’t get into uva you’ll get into another excellent school. you’re in very good shape. enjoy the holidays.
