Yes, overenrollment has been an issue since Covid.
Good luck!

I donât want to change the original safety/target/⊠designations, so we can look back at the end to see if they were right.
Yes. Penn St, Ohio St and almost all of the targets have secondary admission and that was why the thread asked for other target suggestions with direct admission. Maybe we will add RPI but it does not have sports.
As a parent, I like secondary admission as it keeps the kid motivated, but it is not my choice!.
Maybe take a look at UMD (itâs on level with your other targets). They donât have a secondary admission process as far as I know.
RPI does have sport, just DIII with the exception of ice hockey - which is D1 and games are great fun!
Not a target with the cut in enrollment, but a low/high reach for CS. But no essays to write I think, will consider adding, thanks.
For schools that superscore, we have submitted ACT (C:35 M:35 E:35 R:32 S:36) but a couple of the schools like UIUC/Wisconsin do not superscore. We can submit either ACT (C:34 M:35 E:34 R:32 S:36) or SAT (C: 1520 M:790 E:730) or both. I think submitting the SAT is marginally better based on concordance table for composite scores, unless science score of 36 has an impact on engineering admission.
Does anybody have suggestions?
You can look up ACT SAT concordance to see which score is better.
You mention expecting to graduate in 3 years with expensive privates with AP/DE credit - look VERY, VERY carefully at how much credit will be granted - not just overall but towards majors etc. A lot of the privates limit how much credit they will extend and sometimes throw it in a general bucket that doesnât actually help with graduating early.
Thanks. A valid concern for Duke where he has not applied yet. USC and Santa Clara take community college credits. USC limits at 32 I believe.
Safety: UCR, SDSU, ASU(admitted,CS,$17500)
Target: Santa Clara(admitted, CSE) , Ohio St, Penn St(admitted, CS), RPI, Minnesota(admitted,CSE,$15000)

Update: admissions for Penn st and Santa Clara. Merit for minnesota and asu
Happy to go to any of the targets. A bit more optimistic on the others.

High Reach: UCSD, UCLA, USC, UVA, UT Austin, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Duke
Update: Received what looks like a half-tuition bronco scholarship to santa clara.
Congratulations on the access + award. Santa Claraâs location in Silicon Valley is a real plus.
Appreciate the continued updates! Your son has some great options already. Will be interesting to see how the rest of the process goes!
FYI for future applicants, you can use the in-house app if your common app is not ready and apply early. Of the 4 acceptances, only santa clara used the common app. Minnesota used the golden gopher app and the penn st/asu used their own app.

Update on two of the schools: Admitted CS to Purdue. Deferred (likely soft reject) at UT, Austin.
Note on UT Austin: There is some speculation that given the huge spike in applications, UT,Austin ran out of time and moved people to the RD decision date. While this may be true, they did have 3 months to look at the application in EA and have also accepted RD applicants who applied later.
So, I believe this is more a soft reject rather than a deferral.
Note on Purdue: Given my sonâs dual interest in CE and CS, at purdue picked CS as first choice from college of science and CE from college of engineering as second choice when he applied with transferring between them pretty hard to do. The reasoning here being CS is a direct admit at Purdue.
We are very happy he was admitted. Seems like the holistic admission went beyond the UW GPA which is below the 25th perecntile. Not sure which aspects of the application helped, but my guess would be supplemental essays and rigor.
Note that Penn State and Minnesota do have secondary admission to the CS or other engineering majors.
Congratulations to your son on so many wonderful offers! Are there any schools in the lead?
By the way, thanks so much for the update. Itâs very much appreciated!
Things might be more clear at the end of the month, when a lot more schools decide. Definitely Purdue is a leading contender given the competitive COA.
