essays, strong

teacher recommendations - strong

c. reccomendation - don’t know, probably generic.

any chance?

I think you definitely have a chance with your good scores/recommendations/essays
being half black/half native american will probably give you an advantage as well.

Sometimes you never know why you get accepted/rejected. But good luck!

Your SAT’s are strong, you are a minority candidate so I would give you good chances, unless you come from an affluent background.

this is not helpful, but if I ran Yale, I would institute an unofficial rule that all fencing captains automatically get in. :)

middle class - both parents work, probably 75k… how does that play out?
is my rank going to kill my chances? not top ten 10%

great chances…do u plan to play a sport at yale (fencing by chance)?

cross country - im a little off of yales standards (not by much). i know i could match some of their best athletes next year, but an injury this year sidelined me. i did send out a recruitment form though!

stats are pretty low. high number of applicants from georgia as well.the rank will automatically throw you out. perhaps not if you had perfect sat scores, but you’re far from that. i hope you don’t plan on applying to any other ivies. yale doesn’t take anyone not in the top 10%. id aim for a john hopkins/carnegie mellon/less selective northern school.

^

That’s not true. They will take people under top 10 percent if they have strong SAT scores (which s/he has) and are a URM (which s/he is) or have a strong hook.

97% of applicants were in the top 10 percent. those other 3% were probably heavily recruited athletes - or had extremely strong ecs. lets not give her false hope.

Beatlesfan, how many half Black, half Native American applicants do you think Yale will get?

It’s definitely a hook. Is it enough to counter a poor class rank? Who knows.

Beatlesfan, you are just hoping she doesn’t apply to anymore ivies because she will probably take your spot.

no, im trying to do her a favor.

If this is legit I think you’re in. You have massive hooks and good ECs/test scores.

what i meant was, i dont see how its fair that just because her parents are black/native american, that she can get in with a subpar ranking and gpa. yale will see through her urm status… she seems very all-american, but all-americans don’t necessarily belong in the ivy leagues- superstars do.

“but all-americans don’t necessarily belong in the ivy leagues- superstars do.”

I’m not sure what exactly you think the majority of the students at Ivy League schools are like, but if you think that being a tri-sport varsity captain along with other solid EC’s isn’t Ivy material, then I’m not even sure what to say.

AA may not seem fair, but that’s the way it is.

So blacks and NAs are not American??

Before this thread degenerates into an argument about AA rather than a discussion of the OPs question, please take general AA comments to:

well, thank you for being honest. my grades i guess will just not cut it. now im not too excited for december 15…

Hey, penguino9. I think you’ll get in but then again, EA is a strong pool. Don’t worry, your chances are good.

Solid SAT and Subject tests and you have URM status (even without it, you’re pretty competitive), middleclass…

I think they can look past the rank since you do have a strong GPA (95%)

I just don’t understand people on this board…trying to bring people down just to make themselves feel better.

Smile on Dec. 15th, penguino9, and let me know if and when you get in. ;)

thank you!
