Chances and Freshman Living

Hey Guys,
I’m a current junior in hs…
Here are my stats so please chance me:
SAT: 2260
ACT: 33
GPA: 88.4/100 (5 AP courses, I got 5’s on all exams)
Activities: Dance, tennis, lacrosse, piano, violin, president of three clubs
Parents are doctors but they went to Brown and Harvard
Income: $1M+
Not applying for financial aid. (not sure if these matter but ive seen them put in the accepted students profiles here on cc)
Race: Asian

What are my chances at BU CAS and also what are my chances at the eight year liberal medical program?

Freshmen living: My family has a vacation house on Commonwealth ave. close to BU… Could I live here alone or is that not allowed? Suggestions?

Someone please respond lol

You have a great chance for CAS. Keep up the good work. (Not sure about the 8 year program though, I have no idea about that)

In regards to your question about living, I highly suggest that you live on campus your first year. It is part of the college experience that you do not want to miss out on and plus, freshman are required to live on campus for their first year. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback!
Also, about living, are freshmen allowed to live in the high-rise apartments?
It would be really hard for me to adjust to “dorm style” living; I looked on the BU website and they said if you had a residence under a certain parameter freshman year, you can live there also

And can someone provide feedback based on my stats for the 8 year liberal arts/med program

No problem. And I would suggest against that. It’s mostly upperclassmen and it would be really hard to get it because apartments usually fill up before you even enroll.

Thank you

This may come out very cocky; I honestly don’t intend it to.
I intend to bring my car to campus.
It is a nice car (Porsche); are there incidents of hate crimes to people who drive cars like this, etc?
I’m used to attending a school where this is the norm.
I love BU, but I don’t wanna attend if I can’t be accepted there
And I’m not trying to show off, I just want a car there and that’s what I have

Uhm, why would you need a car? There really isn’t a point because parking costs a ton and you’re living in a city. But if you really want to bring a car, you won’t be “hated” on, lol.

You have awesome stats for CAS. I can’t comment on the 8 yr. med program, because I am not familiar with the stats currently needed for this program. Perhaps someone with recent firsthand experience will chime in.

I would also suggest that you consider living on campus in Warren Towers or West Campus as a freshman. IMHO, it is a great experience in terms of meeting people. Also, they may still have (had it back when I attended anyway) pre-med floors. These folks would frequently study together and provided each other a nice support system.

You definitely don’t need a car in Boston, but if you want to bring it, I don’t think anyone will hate on you. Parking will be super expensive and a pain to find sometimes, which I’m sure you already know. The very few times I wished I had my car with me was when I wanted to do something outside of Boston, and those times, I either rode with a friend, took a commuter train, or rented a car.

It seems like you may be a bit of an under-achiever? Is that why you are not looking at Harvard or Brown?

BU looks more heavily at GPA ( See college data and the BU common dataset ) than SAT ACT scores. more likely you would qualify as a general undergrad and prove you can handle the course work before they would consider you for the BS/MD program

That said BU LOVES students who pay full price, so that will be a help ( again for the Undergrad only)

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone.
Yes, I admit I am somewhat of an under acheiver, but I pulled up a ton my junior year…
I do a ton of community service (400 hours a year), and so I really wanna emphasize that on the BS/MD program application
Honestly, I hated harvard, so that’s why I’m not looking into it.
Brown is OK, but I just love BU, and even if I did get into Harvard/Brown, I’d probably still attend BU

Also when u say BU loves students who pay full price, does that mean they don’t have need blind admissions?

Well if you have a Porsche I don’t think the parking costs will blow your money out. You have a solid chance of getting in, SAT is excellent, but GPA is on the low side. Being able to pay COA will help though.

No BU is not need blind…

That said they accept ample students and many will not accept due to the cost

Hi all,
thanks so much for your help!
Ya, i know my gpa is on the low side, but im hoping my sat will make up for that.
im gonna take it one more time in oct. of next year to see if i can get 2300+
ya i definitely won’t apply for financial aid, so maybe that’ll help according to what you guys have said
And yes, i did mean the 7 year medical program

Do you guys think recommendation letters from the doctors I’ve worked with will help for the seven year program?
I’ve done over 600 hours of internship hours with doctors here in Houston

The 7-year medical program is a reach for you-very few students are accepted each year.

I’m a junior in high school, lol, as I posted on the op.
I definitely understand its a reach
Would it help to have parents friends, and doctors I have worked with right recs?
I really have done a ton of medical research and over 600 hours of working with doctors
Intend to do another 350 this summer (before sr year)

BU does love people who pay full rice but they do claim to be need blind in their wholistic admissions process. I do not believe that schools that are not need blind are allowed on the common app.

Ok, thanks so much!
Ya, I won’t apply for financial aid so according to what you guys have said, that’ll maybe help
Thanks

Teh combined program has 2 applications, one for the Medical School and one for the UG degree. Look at the application instructions to see what is recommended/required

Ok, Thanks!
