Chances for admissions

Hi I’m In the 8th grade and trying to apply for freshman year at 2 boarding schools Northfield Mount hermon and St pauls I got an 85 on my SSAT and am retaking it because I think I can do better I got all A’s last year except B+'s in French and science and this year I got all A’s the only subjects I got B’s in both years were music and piano (this year i got a B- in music) I have played soccer for 8 years and rugby for 2 I kayak and ski as hobbies and I have a job as a dishwasher at a local diner i have to sing in a choir at my current school and Im in the bell choir I will be applying for financial aide (id need a lot of it) do I have a good chance

That’s a long sentence.

I’m not really sure about North Mount Hermon, because I’ve heard nothing about it, but I think you sound like a great canidite for St. Pauls! Congrats on you SSAT, thats a fabulous score and good luck with the retake

Anyone know about Northfield mount hermon or more about St pauls

NMH doesn’t like FA apps. Neither does SPS. Have yout got any awards for soccer or music?

SnapePotter,

Where do you get your information??!!
According to the NMH website 41% of NMH students receive financial aid with an average award of $33,850 for boarding students and $20,400 for day students.

37% of St. Paul’s students are on finaid with an average grant of $39,188. SPS pledges full financial aid to families making less than $80,000.
From the SPS website: “We strongly encourage all qualified applicants to consider St. Paul’s, regardless of whether they think they can afford the full cost of attending.”

If there are two candidates with the same credentials, they’ll prefer the one without the need for FA.

^ every school does, except for need-blind schools like andover…

that doesn’t mean they don’t LIKE fa apps  it just means that full pay > fin aid, which exists at almost every school

There’s a big difference between saying that full-pay students have a slight advantage over students who need financial aid and claiming that specific schools “don’t like FA applicants”.

sps has a really good financial aid program. they only become “need aware” in the last cycle of admissions so dont worry about getting in.

I got my SSAT retake scores back. I got an 83 in verbal. A 72 in math. A a 98 in reading. And a 90 overall. Any one know anything about NMH and if my chances are good for getting in and getting a lot of f/a. Also is NMH or SPS preppy compared to other schools like the way the students dress. Cause I heard a lot of different things about SPS and NMH could any current students there tell me anything about NMH or SPS.

"I have a job as a dishwasher at a local diner ". Aren’t you quite young for a job?

I’m 15. I’m a year older than most 8th graders cause of have dyslexia and when I was in kindergarten I repeated a year. My dyslexia isn’t a problem now.

Any one know anything about St Pauls or Northfield Mount Hermon.

Would I be able to get into Andover too, I also applied there.

Well, if you want FA for SPS, it’s extremely hard to get in with a 90. If you want to be safe, you should be leaning toward a 96 or higher, because the average SSAT percentile at SPS is 88%. Andover has a 92 percentile.

I completely agree with SnapePotter about FA
