Chances for E.D at either WUSTL or NU

Hello there College Confidential! Application time is just around the corner, yet I cannot decide between which of the two Universities would give me the better chance of getting accepted for early decision. As I can only pick one, I don’t know which to go with because both have different qualities that I really like and are neck and neck in my college choices. So, I was wondering if anyone could help me with this?

Other colleges I will be applying E.A/R.D:
-University of Chicago
-Rice University
-University Of Michigan - Anne Harbor
-Loyola University
-John Hopkins University
-University of Wisconsin-Madison
-Notre Dame
-Cornell University

Unweighted GPA
-3.86/4.0

Number of AP/honors courses
-11 up through Junior year (Maximum school offers)
-6 senior year/7 total classes

Class rank
-6/435

ACT score
-33 C: 33 E/35 M/32 R/30 S

SAT II scores

ECs

Short explanation on recs/essays
-Teacher Rec from Academic Team Coach(also my AP Bio teacher) - Showed me the draft and it polishes on my strong points in the club and in class
-Counselor Rec is pretty straight forward and discusses some generic qualities
-Essay - Narrative(Common APP 1) - It’s a decent enough essay by my counselor’s standpoint. I’m still editing it however.

Additional information
-My cousin is a distinguished alumni at NU - said he could talk to some admissions about that ( Not sure if that’s allowed though :/)
-Illinois resident / Asian American
-Visited both campuses and did the interview at WUSTL which went great.
-Male, Income Bracket 40-50k

My Standpoint on the chances - I meet in the middle 50% for both schools in terms of academics so I’m an average applicant… and I know my chances of getting into these schools are very slim but I’m doing my best! So if I could get some feedback on which school would most likely accept me over the other, in the chance I DO get accepted, then I would greatly appreciate it.

-Thanks, Shah95 :)

Bump
10char :)

NWU: Reach
WUSTL: Reach
U Chicago: Reach (beware the essay prompts)
Rice: Reach
UMI: Match
Loyola Chicago: Safety
JHU: High match (as long as you don’t want to go for BME)
UWI: Low match
Notre Dame: Reach
Cornell: Reach

-WashU: low reach
-NU: low reach
(Apply ED to whichever you like better, as I think you’ll have very similar chances at both!)

-Loyola Chicago: safety
-Johns Hopkins: mid reach

@ Catria and @ TheBeatlesToday
–Thank you both for that :). I didn’t realize that my chances of getting into Wash/NU were a lot better than I thought they were (low but still a good shot). It also helps seeing some schools as safeties because I haven’t really thought of too many safeties to be honest. I will continue my college research xP, thanks again!

Shah- my son will be starting at WUSTL this fall- awesome school. Your credentials seem pretty strong, and applying ED to WUSTL (or for that matter Northwestern) would improve your chances, but there is no way for any of us to say what is a reach or match, as we are not admissions officers. I think that all highly competitive schools are reaches, to an extent. Best of luck.

Congratulations, I hope your son really enjoys his experience at WUSTL :)! Yeah, they are definitely tough schools to get into and people with far stronger applications might not make it either so I have to really stand out and get lucky  but I won’t let that stop me xP. Thanks for the help!

Well if its any consolation, his ACT was 30 (superscored 32), but he showed a lot of interest in the school, visited during their Christmas break and interviewed on campus, and met with one of the Professors of Classics. It also helps that my brother and family live 5 minutes from campus.

I’m sure he also had a great essay/ec’s! But on another note I have seen a lot of people saying that Wash U in particular really weighs interest heavily so I hope visiting the campus gives me the extra boost!

That seems to be the case - interest in the school is important.
