Hey, I think you have an excellent chance. Are you in state or out of state? I was admitted this year, as an out of state guy, with comparable stats to yours (2110, 710, 720, 680, similar gpa as well as extra curriculars). I’d say that if you are in state you are definitely in, if you are out of state you have about an 80 percent chance.

Yeah, I actually happen to be out of state. I really hope I get in and plan to apply early decision. I was there this week and just fell in love.

I’m confused… Fall 2006? That class is already accepted…

anyway

good stats and leadership in the ECs… you look like you will definitely be competitive. Explain yourself to the admissions office beyond the numbers. Let them know who you are.

you might want to see if you can get a couple more APs

yea, i’d say you have a good chance, but out of state is a lot harder to judge. I think your leadership positions will deffinetly help you out alot, so on your application make sure you really emphasize them!

Thanks. I think getting in to our Governor’s School and Boys State will help out a lot as well. Hopefully they won’t think my GPA is substandard to some other oos candidates.

yeah I think you should get in. my stats were comparable (though some test scores were higher) and I got in. work your ass off on your essay and try to get good recs. you might want to try for better SAT IIs, though I’m not sure if they really need them? hope this helps.

thanks. it seemed as though when i went the admissions lady stressed personality more than she did GPA or cumulative stats. it was odd but i still need all the help i can get. i would also like to know whether or not ED will help me to a great extent because as of now that’s what i plan on.

I would definitely advise you to show interest. I posted on another W&M thread that I got waitlisted (as an out of state) with pretty decent credentials (just to be brief: 3.95, 2240, legacy). But on the other hand, I hadn’t visited the school since my sophomore year, which probably doesn’t even count. W&M isn’t necessarily reputed to be an “interest school”, which checks back their records for whether you’ve visited, but I definitely suspect that that was a factor in my case. If I were you, I would not only visit but make sure the college knows you’ve visited (I hope you filled out one of those little cards), get on the mailing list, attend info sessions, do whatever. And definitely fill out the common app supplement–I did, and I guess it didn’t really help me, but I’m sure it didn’t hurt either.

so what ended up happening after you were weightlisted? i mean, your stats are pretty much unbeatable in the realm of sat’s and gpa. this is actually beginning to scare me quite a bit.

I kind of agree with the “interest” school label, because although my stats were not even close to yours, I was admitted out-of-state. My GPA was somewhere like 3.76UW, SAT 2060/1410, but I did visit last Thanksgiving break and had had conversations with both visiting students at my school and alumni in my area. I was very surprised to have been admitted and will be attending next year. I would say that showing interest would be a good investment in your admission if you really do want to go.

If so much emphasis is placed on interest, I got lucky. Out-of-state, with no legacy, and no demonstrated interest, whether it be a visit or something as small as a phone call to the admissions office or subscribing to a mailing list. The first contact I ever had with W&M was visiting during spring break after I already got accepted. I had similar stats to you all - a 2280 (790M, 750V, 740W), and a 3.8UW GPA, so I’m not sure what did it. I didn’t even write the optional essay…
