Firstly thank you for taking the time to view this thread. I encourage you to state your opinion whether negative or positive. I’m from The Bahamas/Black/HS Senior. I attend one of the most prestigious/competitive high schools in the country…if that matters. (Private HS)

H/S Stats:
…most recent
Junior Year
2.6 - First Semester
2.7 Second Semester

Senior Year
3.35 - First Semester
?? - Second Semester

However, my accumulated(cumulative) GPA is only a 2.54. The reason for this is that my school starts from 7th grade, its not solely a senior high school and my accumulated GPA consists of GPA’s from 7th grade to now. Unfortunately, through the years I was under a great amount of pressure etc and was not performing to my full potential. Hopefully the upward trend makes it clear to the admissions officer along with my essays.

EC’s:
Varsity Soccer Team (7th - 12th grades)
Governor General Youth Award (Bronze)
Varsity Softball Team (1 year)
Dynamos Youth Soccer club (10 Years)
Bahamas Football(soccer) Association National Academy (2 years) highest level of youth soccer in the country
New Bethlehem Marching Band (3 years)
Community Service (30 Hours)

In addition to these I will be getting awesome recommendations from the guidance counselor & teachers.

Here is the list of schools I will be applying to: 1. St. Thomas University
2. Acadia University (in Canada) 3. Florida A&M University

Almost impossible at Acadia with your marks, unless you had some VERY extrunating circumstances. Canadian universities are mark whores, that’s all they care about. The stats you posted about St. Thomas seem within your range, you probably would get int there, although I don’t know too much about the school. Not sure about Florida A&M.

Well…u got into Acadia…congrats for that…hope u get in other colleges as well…
btw,(no biasing),I really feel enthusiastic in talkin to a black(as compared to any other)…may b coz my best friend is a black…;)…

Just got back from a visit to St. Thomas University, I got accepted there. 8,000off aswell. I recommend St.Thomas.U to anyone interested in going to college in Florida. Hopefully I get into FaMU now…

Just out of curiosity, why would you like to go to a school that admits over 90 % of its applicants, including kids with a score of 380 (!!) in their Math SATs ?

Not everyone likes selective schools right? Just because a school accepts >90% of its applicants doesn’t make it a bad school as such.

You could also argue that since the objective of a college is to educate, it is a bigger achievement for a college to convert underperforming or below-par students into successful people rather than teaching the above-average students who would have been successful just about anywhere else.

In total agreement with NBZ, selective schools arent for everyone. My choice of a less selective school should not concern you as I’m the one who will attend it.
