<p>I’m a white male from the Chicago area. My high school is the top public HS in the state.</p>

<p>GPA: 4.14 W, 3.58 UW.
The highest GPA you can get at my school is a 5.0, as an A in an Honors/AP classes = 5.
SAT: 2080
ACT: 30
AP scores: 5s on all 3 (AP US, Euro, English Language).
Course load: 5 CORE classes each year (math, spanish, english, science, social studies), and, out of those, 3 Honors or AP classes per year.
Senior year: AP Bio, Choir, AP Lit, AP Micro and Macro, Spanish 5, Pre-Calculus
ECs:
Involved in theatre (I’ve been in 4 productions during HS as of now).
Co-pres of Gay-Straight Alliance
Staff writer for a school Literary and Art magazine for 4th year now.
Acafellas (male choir group).
Volunteered about 50 hours at a local Youth Center to help tutor kids (hoping for more chances to get hours before applying–volunteering is important to me but it’s hard to find opportunities that don’t conflict with my busy theatre schedule right now).

<p>We’d have more context for your GPA and courses if we knew which high school you attended. New Trier? Adlai Stevenson? There are so many great public high schools in the Chicago area. If you don’t feel like revealing your high school know that those students who are most competitive for admission or those who have As and Bs on their transcript (and hopefully more As than Bs).</p>

<p>Hard to provide feedback on your SAT. We still use a 1600 scale and look primarily at Critical Reading + Math. For out-of-state students are middle 50% range is 1390-1450 or 31-32. If you did better on your SAT we might recommend you try that one more time or if your ACT is better we’d recommend you try that one more time. It can’t hurt you as we only take your best score.</p>

<p>Did you take physics previously? That along with calc and the fourth level of a foreign language are some of the courses we like to see on transcripts. Looks like you weren’t tracked to take calc but you’ve gone above and beyond in Spanish. If you have physics too that will help.</p>

<p>If you do go to one of the high schools we named and you have the leadership you do that’s great. Those schools are huge so gaining a top leadership position is no small accomplishment. You may also want to consider making a theatre or music submission given your involvement in the arts ([William</a> & Mary - Arts Submissions](<a href=“http://www.wm.edu/admission/undergraduateadmission/applicationprocess/artssubmissions/index.php]William”>http://www.wm.edu/admission/undergraduateadmission/applicationprocess/artssubmissions/index.php)).</p>

<p>What are my chances at W&M?</p>

<p>Sounds like your classes are strong. Did you take an APs prior to senior year. When available we like to see grades in APs since we won’t have grades for your senior year.</p>

<p>Without knowing more about your school it’s hard to assess a GPA. We like to see students who have As and Bs (and more As than Bs) so if that’s what you have then your GPA is strong.</p>

<p>We would recommend taking the SAT again if possible. A 1310 is below our mid 50% range for out-of-state students. It’s a solid score but if your score went up that could only help your chances.</p>

<p>It sounds like one of your strengths is in your ECs with four leadership positions plus SCA treasurer. Be sure to highlight those accomplishments in the EC section of the application.</p>

<p>Remember, W&M is highly-selective and even more so for out-of-state. The good news is our holistic process means every student has a chance. But students should have reasonable expectations knowing that we only admit one-third of our applicants.</p>

<p>yes i took AP US history junior year. I got a B- average but a 5 on the AP test. The course is the most challenging in the school and not many take it. I am taking the SAT again in October to hopefully raise my score to above a 1350!</p>

<p>I am a White female at Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke Virginia. I’m still a junior so I don’t have all the information needed. I stayed overnight with one of my friends at William and Mary and fell completely in love! It is my complete dream school!</p>

<p>My Weighted GPA is a 4.04 while my UW is 3.8.

<p>As I am a Junior I haven’t taken the ACT or SAT yet. But, my PSAT score was a 1620. I’m planning on taking four SAT II’s. They’ll be the Literature, World History, US History, and Biology. </p>

-Tutoring with ELL children
-President of ELL Club
-Key Club
-Young Democrats
-1 Year of Marching Band
-Teaching swim lessons at the YMCA

<p>I am definitely applying ED to William and Mary next summer. But, I wanted to know if I was on the right track! I know my freshman year is the weakest by far but, since then I’ve turned it around and got my grades up. I also realize that my math and science grades aren’t fantastic but I am a very humanities oriented person. If you could help me by letting me know what I need to focus on, it would be very much appreciated! Thank You!</p>

<p>What are you planning to take senior year? It will be hard to have a more challenging schedule than junior year but classes like French 4, AP Physics, a second year of AP Calc, etc. are possibilities.</p>

<p>Do you have a class rank? It’s hard to evaluate a GPA without more information about your school’s grading policy. We certainly appreciate an upward trend and prefer it to a downward grade trend but we do review your entire transcript so we don’t just brush early bad grades under the rug but that in itself won’t be the only thing that makes our decision.</p>

<p>Definitely keep up with your strong EC commitments and leadership positions. Maybe even try to add another leadership position.</p>

<p>Have you thought about coming to campus next summer to interview? It’s an optional part of the application but it’s designed to allow you to put your personality into the application so that’s another way to enhance your application.</p>

<p>Applying ED is always a good idea if you’re ready to commit to W&M. The pool is 1100 students as opposed to 13,000. It’s easier for any student to stand out in the smaller pool.</p>

<p>I am also looking at W&M, and I am in love with it! I am just wondering how I stack up right now! I am a white female from West Linn High School near Portland, Oregon. We are one of the leading public schools in the state. I have a 4.0 weighted, and 3.92 unweighted. I am 22/351 in my class. </p>

<p>I have taken regular grade Physics through BYU Online over the summer, and I am currently involved many things extra curricular:
I run Varsity XC, am a member of international club, am a member of the GSA, am a member of NHS and NLHS, and every spring I volunteer over 100 hours working tech for a middle school musical. I also am a camp councilor for 30 hours a summer, and I also work about an hour every week at an elderly assistance home. I am a part of my schools LINK crew, for Freshman, I am on a City council for the “Old Time Fair Court”, aiding 8th grade girls to learn how to represent my city at public events. I have also had an office internship over the summer.
I just want to know what more I can do to make myself more appealing to W&M, which is my dream school (also(sorry to steal the words out of your mouth egamber.)
