Chances of Admission into UT?

Hello!
I’m a rising senior and this whole process has me a little bit overwhelmed.
Stats:
3.4 unweighted, 4.43 weighted
top 8%
expected SAT score from 1480-1520, I took the SAT in 10th grade and got 1350 however.
2 years leadership in marching band, going into the final year with the position of Captain
TMEA all-state player, tuba
currently have a job
IB Diploma candidate/AP credit
150 community service hours
I’m applying for UT’s Biology program, and If I get a high enough score on my HL biology exam, then ill be applying for the honors biology course as an undergrad
I don’t know much about how this forum works, but would these stats and numbers put me in the competition for UT? I’ll also prepare letters of recommendation and a resume.

https://admissions.utexas.edu/explore/freshman-profile has some information:

For Texas residents who do not get top 6% class rank automatic admission:

  • 19.5% admission rate.
  • Middle 50% SAT of 1210 - 1420.
  • Middle 50% ACT of 28 - 33.
  • No information on class rank distribution or admission rate by class rank.

For out of state applicants:

  • 25.9% admission rate.
  • Middle 50% SAT of 1290 - 1460 (domestic non-Texas), 1260 - 1410 (international).
  • Middle 50% ACT of 30-34 (domestic non-Texas), 28 - 33 (international).
  • No information on class rank distribution or admission rate by class rank.

The statistics detailed by ucbalumnus tell the story. UT is a reach school for anyone outside of the top 6%. However, being in the top 8% of your class puts you in “striking range” for admission (assuming you get your SAT score well into the 1400s).

Some observations about the information you provided:

Probably will not help:

High school band
Community service hours
Having a job

Can’t hurt:

Stellar letters of recommendation (especially from science teachers since you are interested in biology}

Might make you stand out just a bit:

Being in IB, not because it is better or more rigorous than AP, but because there are a relatively small number of schools in Texas that offer IB as opposed to AP.

Work on expanding your college list. There are plenty of top schools that would love to have a student with all of your qualifications. Even more encouraging is the fact that some of those top schools are in the state of Texas.

Best of luck!
