Hi im a senior and am looking into UVA
I have a 4.8 gpa and am rank six
i am in IB and have taken moslty ap and weighted classes
i have only gotten 2Bs in high school
i do a lot of extracurriculars (sca, mun president, volunteer, orchestra)

If you are looking for us to boost your confidence, I surely wont be the one to do so. With that 4.8 G.P.A. you should be capable of using your resources to do research of your own to decide whether you will get in or not.

T

^harsh!
The important thing is: are you IS or OOS?

uva doesn’t like b’s so you better write good essays…

As you can see there isn’t anyone here that can give you anything more then a guess, specifically because UVa uses holistic admissions. Talk to your GC and see what successful candidates from your hs have looked like. The Common Data Set can also be helpful. If you really want to play the ‘chances game’ (that’s what it is) there’s an entire forum just for that: [What Are My Chances? - College Confidential](Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums)

If you have specific questions regarding UVa, there are regular posters here who are extremely knowledgable who are happy to help in that area.

Best of luck to you.

Wow of all the “schools” I have visited at CC, this thread is horrible. Rather than attempting to help the poster, you attack them. I sure hope this is not the attitude of most people at UV.

Chances posts belong in the chances forum…

Galaxy, maybe you didn’t notice that the people being dicks have 3 posts total between them.

Like guillaume said, being IS or OOS makes a lot of difference. A lot of people from my IB school get accepted there every year with lower stats than yours, but were an IS school. however, from what ive read about UVa admissions, youll still probably stand a good chance of admission EA or RD with your stats.

I mean no disrespect whatsoever to mmaatt, but this is a classic example of why chance threads are ‘gaming’ at best.

Although well meaning, they have told the OP they "stand a good chance of admission EA or RD with your stats.

What we don’t know…

State residency

SAT, ACT, SAT2 scores

We have a GPA, however we have no context for that (ie no grading scale, are things weighted, how many APs and which ones, are there restrictions on how many you can take, etc.).

We know ‘mostly AP and honors classes’ which is very subjective. Which APs? What was the course rigor based on what was offered at the OPs school? How many years of a foreign language?

We know a lot of EC’s, but how did the OP distinguish themselves as an individual, what’s important to them personally?

ALL of the things above are available to be reviewed by the admissions reader in the application via transcripts, essays, LORs, official scores, GC report, etc. There is no possible way without the complete picture we can tell the OP, or any other person asking for chances, if they will be accepted.

What we can do is answer specific questions about UVa. One of the most informative things a prospective student can do is subscribe to Dean J’s blog [Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process](http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/) . There is a handy search feature where you can look for past blogs where she’s addressed something you’re unsure about. Something that can also be really helpful is to go back about a year and read through the blog posts (it really doesn’t take that long). You will then know what to expect along the way, taking a lot of the anxiety out of the process. In October if you come across something unfamiliar you may remember reading about it in the blog and be able to go back and find an answer as opposed to freaking out.

The forum is here to help prospective students, current students, parents, alumni, fans, etc. One of the most unconstructive things, however is chance threads. Of course all this is certainly my opinion and people are free to disagree.
