Character Skills Snapshot Results

my son just got his results (12/18):

Responsibility: Demonstrating
Intellectual Curiosity: Demonstrating
Resilience: Demonstrating

Self-control: Developing
Open-mindedness: Developing
Social Awareness: Developing
Initiative: Developing

My results are:
Intellectual Curiosity, Responsibility, Resilience are past demonstrating, all the way to the end
Every other character skill was at demonstrating.

If you would like to share, please post your results below.

Thanks!

My results are:
All of them are past demonstrating except Intellectual Curiosity which was at demonstrating.

Also, what is generally considered a “good” score for high-ranked BS?

My daughter was emerging in all the areas except initiative and social awareness are developing. This is NOT reflective of her at all. I’m not a delusional parent, I promise! She is mature, kind and if anything a moody teen at times. She said she was honest but that she had to choose an answer when really none of the answer choices reflected what she would actually do ina given scenario. We are not planning to share this report.

@bsmom2004 i completely and utterly agree. some questions, i really had no idea how to answer and now my results are totally skewed in the sense that the only score i was high in was intellectual curiosity, making me seem like a smart but antisocial person who only cares about academics

@randomcandidate i don’t think there is a ‘good’ score in this, i guess the bs’s should acknowledge this is fkrst gen testing and the pool we are compared with is relatively small. but still, it doesn’t feel great to be told we’re under the 25th percentile :frowning:

My kid took this last year when it was first being flown out there - test run (no pun intended). I also saw one of the test samples that was sent to me. As someone who has experience in test construction (yes, its out there), I found it weak. I know they claim to have a large sample for validation, but its the actual construction of it that seemed flawed last year. Also, it’s had some items on there to try to catch response inconsistencies - but items as given can be misinterpreted by kids IMHO. For example, a kid may read an item and think “it depends on the situation”
I have not seen the test this year, so appreciate you sharing your thoughts on it
hoping that AO’s don’t put that much weight into it.

@altablue - sounds like a typical teenager to me  - that’s how they are!

good question!

@Martha1970: Do you have a question?

Is this something new? What the heck is a “character skills snapshot?”

It’s another $$ product being mandated by the portal
from “becausewesayso”.

Have any schools made this a mandatory component of their applications?

I know that many schools highly recommend it, but I’m not sure if any require it

@ChoatieMom what is a typical “good” score? also, what skills are top BS looking for the most?

Most schools phrase it as “strongly recommended”.
Would it aid the application to submit it?

As @golfgr8 mentioned, last year was the pilot year. DS took it “for the sake of research” but we never got feedback, like it seems they are giving kids this year. Plus, he took it after M10 and the fifth or sixth pleading email from SAO/SSAT. I think they’re still using it for research purposes, to see if kids with certain “traits” seem to do better or worse at their particular school. And I agree, the format was pretty nebulous. I don’t think they’ve garnered enough response to determine what “traits” would help or hinder and from what I’d read last year, a lot of it they predicted would be individual school structure dependent.

For me, everything was past demonstrating except initiative, resilience and social awareness which were at demonstrating. Seems weird though, because those three skills seem my strongest.

I already submitted it to Lawrenceville because they seem adamant on me submitting it, what about Exeter, Peddie and Groton. I couldn’t find anything on their websites specifying anything, so should I still send it?

Is it on both portals? Gateway and SAO asking for you to submit the test?
