Cheap AOPS books or books like AOPS?

I wanted to buy AOPS Intermediate Alg to master Algebra 2 for AMC prep, but I simply can’t afford it… The book is cheapest on the AOPS site, and the price is $64, which is reasonable but I simply can’t afford it. My dad is out of a job so I don’t want to burden my family, and all I have is $50 Amazon card from winning at SciOly.

I really want to learn more math, but I don’t have the capital to do so. Do you all know of any place for these books or a cheaper alternative?

Khan Academy is always great!!

Edit: Is there a “Used” option on Amazon for this book?

@ambers58 The used one on Amazon is more expensive than a new one from AOPS. :frowning: I’ve been going through Khan Academy along with an online Precalc bookthat my school uses in their Precalculus Honors class that I got access to which covers a lot of Algebra 2, but I really need more challenge as I’m preparing for a intensive Math HL course.

@halcyonheather - This looks intense.

you can find books illegally online, if you know where to find.

There’s quite a bit of resources for Putnam online or you can try to just keep on doing practice tests or perhaps reading a college textbook, though those would be less AMC algebra focused. I’d just go with practice problems tbh

What a shame. Used is always so good for cheap alternatives.

How about Exeter math packets!!??

school math isn’t as hard as competition math in the US.

@ambers58 do you go to Exeter? I’m going through those right now and I don’t really know what’s going on lol.

@wcao9311 - check pm?

@joeweller Oh no I don’t. From what I understand, the Exeter system is a problem solving approach (which I find fascinating and riveting). I don’t think each section has a coherent topic, but rather a myriad of types of problems.

I just purchased AOPS Vol 2 and Beyond and it should be coming soon in the mail. It’s much cheaper than the Intermediate one and on Amazon, used is around $20. I’ve heard wondrous things about it, so take a look at that! It’s used for AMC prep and other higher level math. Vol 1 might have the more basic Alg 2 material. I’d look into both.
