Cheaters' destinations?

I have no intention to cheat… But I just feel so unfair when thinking about the prospect of losing out to those cheaters who put up fake information… How are they filtered out by adcoms?

Unfair? Who told you the world was fair?

I don’t condone cheating, but these things are all part of life. It’s upto you to decide whether you’re going to let these sort of things get you down or motivate you to do even better.

Think about it and good luck. :)

well, don’t the UC’s have one thing on every application selected and then the student must prove the validity of say the extracurricular activity or award?

idk about any other schools tho

It’s pretty easy to spot cheaters, even on CC.

Thanks… Yea an unfair world…

but how do they verify things?
for example i got an award for GCSE exams but all i have about it is just a little slip of paper confiming it…do i have to send it in or something? other things were just a case of it being announced in assembly…

You don’t need to send any form of proof unless they ask you to. Universities are known to conduct random checks and they also occasionally verify things that look suspicious.

thx :)

also, i havent registered on the Common App website yet or anything but ive heard we have to list our ECs, how long weve been doing them etc…what exactly do we have to put down? and how specific? somethings i have done continuasly whilst others i have done for eg a school year, took a break and then retook again etc…

I would say to be on the safe side send proofs.
I am sure my application would raise some doubts, that’s why i am faxing them tomorrow.

Most of my ECs were done in short spans all around the year. It’s ok. They have columns in which you can indicate the hrs/wk as well as wks/yr you spent on your ECs. So you can do them here and there and then list them as such.

When listing your ECs, you will have space for only 8. Choose broad categories and then try to fit them all. But space is not really a problem. Almost everybody uses the Additional Info section to add stuff about their ECs.

hmm…well i have done things such as doing several community service projects (old ppl home +teaching to read at local school) like once/week but doubt i can provide proof ot it…the people there dont know our names (they addressed my two chinese friends as :“ah…yes…you must be Ping and Pong right?”…and they werent joking…

how to send proofs? fax them? I read that Stanford won’t accept any certs or such proofs… How about other colleges?

You can either fax them or email them.

but how are we supposed to send them proof that weve
been doing community service…its not exactly something
people in my school did to get to USA (since you dont need
to send “proof” to UK ones)…

Send a formal letter from the in-charge of orphanage/society/organization.

I did not send any “proof”.
If the colleges doubt anything on my application, I will sure that they will let me know, and I have all the “proof” ready in case any college asks for it.
But it is highly unlikely that the colleges will ask for it because by signing the Common Application you are stating that everything on your application is true and correctly presented.
Still, people DO send false material…
