I’m curious if budget is a bit tight, would you recommend renters or tuition insurance? My son does have medical issues currently, so would that still cover him?
Two questions: 1) How does your renter’s insurance differ from traditional insurance providers? 2) I just received my bachelor’s degree and am working for a year to get applicable hours and experience before going to PA/med school. Do I need to be an existing college student to be able to get renter’s insurance through Gradguard?
Can you speak more about pre existing conditions as related to the Tuition Insurance? My daughter was had an eating disorder for about 3 years. She’s been on the same medications for anxiety and depression for awhile but now her psychiatrist wants to change the specific medication but they are in the same class of medication, ie they are both SSRIs. She is also planning to stop one or two of her existing medications. Her doctor feels she is okay to go to college. Also, she is switching therapists because she is going to college out of state. Do any of these situations prevent us from using your tuition insurance plan? Thank you
We have to pay all of the tuition upfront in August. If a doctor advises that for my daughter’s health, she has to leave school in Nov, do you get all of the tuition paid in August back?
Class begin late September for me at UC Irvine. As an athlete that’s going to play at the school, does any type of insurance you provide cover my sports equipment as well?
Also, if I were to transfer schools next year, would I need to re-signup or can I roll over? is pricing different depending on university ?
I took out gradguard insurance for my son, I suspected issues, I was right, but it wasn’t anything he had seen professionals for. I do think preexisting conditions do not qualify. We did get it all refunded.
Thank you for your response. Hopefully the Grad Guard president will be able to elaborate on the pre existing conditions in questions tonight. I called the customer service number and the people who answered the phone were clueless and not helpful.
Thought from a parent: I am a fan of getting insurance - we bought through Gradguard. Both our kids know we get the tuition insurance each year and we view it as a peace of mind, if something happened and they had to leave school. We hope it makes them feel better to take the financial stress out of the picture if it comes to the point for withdrawing.
We also get dorm insurance (not sure the provider) and it makes more sense vs using your home owners due to large deductible and issues impacting rates if you submit a claim. The policy was inexpensive with a $50 or $100 deductible and each child has submitted and been paid for a claim and they still renew and didn’t raise rates!
One case - 1 airpod and the case stolen right out of our student’s hand while walking and the other had their iphone quit working after getting wet running a 1/2 marathon in a storm. Both kids figured out the claim process (stolen item needed a police report), paid the deductible and received full replacement value. We originally bought the insurance thinking of damage in the dorm to items (broken water pipe, fire or the like) not to use outside of the dorm - so it was great surprise to have these things covered. It also covered their items when studying abroad too.
Just my 2 cents - and I am not a paid spokesman for insurance companies
