Checklist for College: Protecting Your Investment - Exclusive ASK ME ANYTHING w/ GradGuard on Tue, Aug 6 from 7-8pm ET

@ChelsBlues - I’ll answer all of your questions here.

  1. Sports equipment can be covered through our personal property coverage with renters insurance - Theft, burglary, and malicious damage.

  2. When you transfer schools, if you are in the same state, you can just change the address for coverage under Renters Insurance. The premium may vary based on zip code. Our tuition Insurance does depend per School and you will need new coverage per school.

  3. A School Sport injury is an exclusion under our Tuition Insurance and will not be a covered claim.

  4. We do not provide discounts for multiple policies or referrals

@Elrosahern - Any student attending a four-year non-profit institution in the US can take out a tuition insurance or college renters insurance plan, regardless if they are a GradGuard partner school or not. Partner schools offer preferred pricing but all plans can be purchased on our website. We do work with a handful of community colleges, check with your school to see if they offer GradGuard or search for your school on our website when getting a quote.

@Elrosahern - I understand budgets are tight as college costs rise. Consider if your family could afford the cost of an extra semester if your student needed to leave school unexpectedly mid semester. Or, if your family could afford to replace a stolen laptop, bike, or unintentional damage to their dorm room (fire, flood, etc). These costs often outweigh the cost of our plans which we consider affordable and can provide great peace of mind. As for pre-existing conditions, generally, a student with a well-managed condition who is medically cleared to attend school can be covered. Please call one of our licensed friendly reps during business hours to answer more specific questions about your situation.

@JohnGradGuard, I have some questions:

  1. Does tuition insurance cover a student if they fail their classes or want to change schools?
  2. When can a student purchase tuition insurance? Is there any specific moment or can it be done at any point during the semester?

@CC_Sorin

  1. No, tuition insurance would not cover a student if they fail their classes or want to change schools. Tuition Insurance can provide up too 100% reimbursement if a student withdraws for a serious illness, injury, mental health condition, or other covered reason.

  2. Tuition insurance must be purchased prior to the start of classes. So if classes start on a Monday, a plan must be purchased by Sunday. Many families purchase a plan when paying their tuition bills, prior to the start of the upcoming term.
