Chilean Miners (merged thread)

Yay! :)

Live news like this is what makes watching ‘reality shows’ impossible for me to do.

Bravo to the miners, their families, and the rescuers who have endured these past 70 days.

So this is interesting- unless I misheard the reporter, they can only be brought up during the night because the sunlight could damage their eyes.

Blindfolds?

They are being brought up with special glasses on. Not sure about the sunlight though. It would not surprise me.

They have special glasses for them to wear.

I wonder how many generations it takes fish or even mammals confined to darkness to lose the physiological capacity for sight? Not just atrophy but genetic changes.

Google is calling to me as the Sirens called lto Ulysses.

^ Hey now… I think the Sirens just got a bad rap.

Anyway, yeah I missed the part about the glasses. Wow… so many things I didn’t think about that they would have to readjust to on land :/

Here’s to the best for them!

What an amazing thing. So relieved that it is going well.

An apolitical, human-interest, international event is in the E&P subforum?

Hmmm.

I guest it’s just I that doesn’t see this as “Election & Politics.”
;)

Pretty spellbinding stuff. Overtaking this evening’s MSM political shows. They yielded coverage to the miners. ;)

epiphany, I agree. Surprised to see this only in this subforum. I posted about this over a half hour ago in the Parent Forum (in Dad ll’s thread so maybe that’s why no response there!). Somebody just opened a thread a couple of minutes ago in the Parent Cafe. This is amazing and am hoping for all the best for those still waiting to be rescued.

Just saw the first man out on the news. What a relief for their families and how must it be to wait if you’re one of the last guys out!

2nd miner up?

That 2nd Guy was pumped. Looked like he brought gifts up from the mine. I did not expect to laugh after the tears of seeing them come out. I am just amazed how healthy they seem after more than two months trapped underground, though apparently they were starting with the healthier ones first to see how they handled it.

Just reported - 4th miner has been brought to the surface!!! This is amazing - most uplifting news I’ve seen in the past weeks! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the rest of the rescue will go smoothly.

I’ve been watching the rescue too…the second guy is presenting talking his head off to a camera with his family…he’s completely euphoric. I wish I could understand everything he said.
5th guy is about to start coming up now…

Magnificent rescue…hope all goes well with all of them.

8th one rescued! Glorious Day !!!

Just amazing! What will these men do for a living now? I can’t imagine they would ever go into a mine again!

So moving!

How did they all shave before they emerged??? Did the 2 rescue guys bring down toiletries and water? They have been talking about special fortified Powerade for their electrolytes, but havent heard about the bathroom facilities. Maybe thats a good thing.

They asked for toiletries to be sent down to freshen up before the rescue. I think they said they have a water pool/fall down there to bathe in as well. The oddest thing IMO was that they asked for shoe polish.
