I hope some of the students on this forum pay attention to this incident and realize what labor and sacrifice goes into providing the essentials of society.

The copper wire operating their computer hard drive doesn’t come easily. Anytime someone turns on a light switch they should be reminded that people like the Chilean miners risk their lives to provide such a luxury.

What they have gone through (and their families) - even just this process of bringing every one up which is so tedious and time consuming - is the ULTIMATE lesson in patience and trust.

I was sitting there with tears running down my face. It is such a gift to be witness to a miracle. I am just so grateful that the miners are all ok. God bless them.

They said he brought up a bag of rocks from the mine to pass out as souvenirs.

I guess when you know you are going to appear on world-wide TV, no one wants look like they’ve been trapped in a mine for three months. You always want to look your best when a billion people are watching.

Watching them reunite with their children and wives is beautiful! Hugging and thanking the rescue workers is beautiful! I have been moved to tears all morning.

I am just amazed at the engineering, the electronics, the communications, etc. To have the foresight too, to send lighting, communication and video equipment to be able to check on the safety of the miners and then watch this drama unfold is astounding. To watch the capsule stop at just the right place is incredible. I am also reminded of watching the other “Phoenix” , the little bald eaglet, earlier this year. Technology has brought us to a new world.

I am also fascinated that the friends and family members take their turns to greet, embrace and hold the miners, one at a time, respecting the time and space that each needs. Quite impressive.

Not to derail this thread, but the next miner to be rescued is Yonni Barrios. Should be interesting as he is greeted by both his wife and his mistress (whom his wife didn’t know about until they met at the rescue camp site).

Overall, this entire rescue is a televised miracle. In this particular case, we get Daytime Soap Opera drama added in. I got my popcorn ready…

Best source- the ongoing BBC news continuous feed online. From Google news type in BBC News- Chilean Mine Rescue. It showed up as one of the first news items last night, I saved it as a favorite. It kept me up way too late. The best thing is I can have the sound on while surfing other sites- giving me an excuse to do too much CC posting! There’s a live feed with commentary plus a running transcript of comments you can read from the beginning and/or catch up on what you missed.
