sup and welcome wang tian, i think HYP admissions is really unpredictable so its better u pick more skools to apply to

tang, i 晕!
你不是男的啊,原来?我还以为你是个男的哈!结果是三八红旗手啊,呵呵!!
大家以后准备干什么呢?

of course tang is male. he is no where close to a girl.

Apply to more schools? Interesting thought. I’ve seen people on this site applying to no less than 10 schools. How do they do that? That’s going to take up so much energy and time.

But hopefully someone can be definitive about my questions:
If I am on H-4 visa, am I an international student?
Do I need TOEFL if I get 5s on AP English and 2200+ on SATs?

Thanks everyone.

forgive me for my stupidness but I don’t know what is a H-4 visa. but usually unless you are a citizen or PR, you’re considered as international.
some college require TOEFL score for internationals no matter what score you got on SAT. if you are applying for these schools, you need to take TOEFL. you can find this out on each school’s website. to make sure, contact the admissions office.

oh about applying more colleges. you can fill up the common application and send it to whatever college you like on the list. it’s always a good idea to have some safety schools just in case you can’t get in HYP.

WangTian, yes you’re international because you don’t have US citizenship or green card as yet. I doubt you have to take the TOEFL cos you’ve been in the US for 3-4 years. And really, apply to more schools, admissions at HYP are just too unpredictable. Good luck!

What acrynom is HYP?

How many schools do you guys apply to?

Do schools live Ivy Leagues require TOEFL for people in my conditions?

Here is an interesting question if you aren’t tired with answering the other ones. Right now I am graduating high school one year early. In other words, I would be skipping a grade. Does this work at my benefit? I mean, I could simply stay one more year, push all the testings back by one year (so pretty much a 2400 SAT guaranteed), and perhaps get more extracurricular credentials and awards, and take about eight more AP classes. Do you think for colleges the one year compensates or even outshines the potential credentials?

Thanks.

hey wangtian
i’m almost positive that you don’t have to take the toefl. that would be ridiculous. for some schools i applied to, a 650+ on verbal wavied the requirement

and yea. i konw some ppl who took a yr off and did some really interesting stuff (research, volunteering, etc). if you can think of a good way to spend your time, i think it’s worth it.

guys i’m watching the 春节联欢晚会 right now…it’s interesting. the acrobats are awesome to say the least

gosh. the food at home’s just…beyond awesome. everytime i go home i gain like 5 lbs…yea i really need new pants

LOL…me too.i just have random meals during the day.

2400 SAT guaranteed? wow, you need to share some tips with me. i suck at sat.

Hi everyone,
I’m an student going to study at san diego for fall 2006…

i have a question though, in the US is there a difference between taiwanese and chinese people? are they friends? or do they separate and go to their own group? do any taiwanese people join the chinese student club?

I don’t mean to stay home after graduation for a year, but simply skip a year of high school and go straight to college after graduation…

HYP are exactly the 3 skools u r applying to

what u can do is apply to these skools this year, and if u dont get in, take a yr off or do another yr of hs which ever u want to or is possible… even if u get in, u can defer enrollment, but they want to be sure if and when u will go

danny, sup, taiwanese are part of chinese according to pretty much all the taiwanese i know. and the taiwan population at santa monica high is larger (or close to being larger) than mainland. they are an integral part of our chinese club and are great friends and classmates

but hongkong and other ppl from the pearl river area do separate b/c some of them cant speak standard chinese (mainly hongkong ppl, and then alot of pearl river ppl would hang out w/ the hk ppl instead of us cuz they more closenit than we are), but we all meet on common ground in chinese club…

o yea, and chinese club is like, “chinese student services association of santa monica”… we like a gang… [jk]if u chinese and u just cant stand the sight of sb, just come to us on ur club day, and no one will never see that person in skool again[/jk]… but we do do a study group like thing where we tutor and have a qq group to put up all the hw we have and do projects together… lol man its the gangster students

alright so if i’m taiwanese and i go join a chinese student club no one gonna kick me out right :D

funny to me how the taiwanese students there think they are part of mainland… i personally dont really care about either side… i have great chinese friends and stuff… but ya know back in taiwan they take this stuff serious not agreeing to any relationship with mainland and stuff…

well glad in US theres none of that

naw its not that they think they part of mainland, they part of china, and mainland is only a part of china

hmm. .
all the taiwanese [lol all 2 of them, that is] at my school are strongly 台獨. as are most of their friends back home.
oh well
we get along with each other great, as long as we don’t get started on politics:D

o gosh,im soooo sensitive about this thing.as long as you don’t ask me for my opinion or provoke,i’m usually ok but any of the above two happens,i’ll get really agitated.
i don’t think there’s anyone from taiwan in my college(because it’s so damn small) so i don’t know how that’ll be like.

wow so i see i cant joke with any chinese about the politics/independence thing then right?

aha here in my school we joke around it often, the taiwanese would say like fan-gong-da-lu etc etc but its all good :D

well,i guess if i’m used to it then it’s alright.but i’m not so i’ll have to get used to it.actually,i’ve already learned to control my temper about this because people from other countries (accidentally) provoked me AND, i suppressed my urge to start this big political argument with them.very proud of myself i have to say.

JinFX,i like your explanation a lot.yea they’re obviously not part of mainland but they’re part of china.
