Chinese Thread

well i have no idea where/what i’ll end up as, but stm it really seems skool in US is much better than skool back home, cuz over here, its like, automatic to have a group of chinese-only friends who may or may not be closer…

wouldnt know what i’d do w/o all the chinese ppl… maybe join a gang if i wasnt overseas…

or be the bully if i was the only chinese… it actually happened for more than a year… but there were two of us chinese just banging on camden/collingswood new jersey… man, but somehow camden’s crime rate went DOWN (from like top 3 cities in the US)… actually when i was in gary, indiana it had the top crime rate in the US… lol its true tho

haha the korean restaurant was fine… it was quite expensive though. lol
friedmoon, can i add you on my msn? hehe

lets post some stats here!!

2 generations back China was in the thick of stuff like the Great Leap Forward, Cultural Revolution etc. so fleeing to the states and wanting to stay there was totally natural. now china’s more “stable” [the big cities like beijing, shanghai anyway], and has more opportunities, ppl are flocking back. it’s 爱国 思乡 mixed with pragmatism, i guess.

—yea i luv how wherever u go, there’s always at least a bunch of chinese faces. when u’re in a completely unfamiliar place, u have at least that wisp of a connection to tide u over until u get used to the place.

—lunny sure!

wow, that’s great!!that’s what i want to do.i’ll probably either get in a summer program or fall program in beida.my school has those programs.hey xo!maybe we’ll see each other!!hehe

wow xo has such a great future

sup arthas, if ur talking college admissions stats, i dont think most of us even remember them… lol all i care about now is acceptances/rejects and fin aid

but i guess it’ll help for u to know that i got in ucla w/ a 2090 and 3.6 uwGPA, but i volunteered 184 this most recent august at UCLA department of pathology, immunology lab… really dont know how good my essays were but they may have noticed i used exactly 999 words

yea, i really want to volunteer in my mom’s college, but they don’t let me do it. the professor think i m not good enough to volunteer. all i wanted is wash test tubes… they say they will think of it next year. congrats, jinfx. ucla=university of california +la?? i m going to apply for college next year, but still have no idea where i ll go.sigh

Hey, guys! I just found out about this thread and am THRILLED.
I’m a junior from Taiwan; I go to Taipei First Girls’ Senior High School–Bei Ee Nu Chung in Chinese (I don’t know han u ping ing ><). Has anyone heard of it before? It’s supposed to enjoy some prestige.
I’m planning on applying for Stanford or Harvard EA. Depends, I’m not sure if my ECs will get me in Harvard, they’re a bit weak. I mean, there are just NOT that many opportunities for some decent ECs here. Anyway, someone mentioned something about posting stats, so here goes. If anyone has any suggestions or comments of any kind, please make them! I would really appreciate it!

SAT I: CR: 800 ;Writing: 780 ;Math: 800 !!! how did you get 800 CR??? these taiwan schools are crazy

bei yi nv is pretty famous in taiwan i heard.that’s cos i watch too many taiwan tv shows, like我猜and 周日八点党.well welcome rockao! i mean ur stats seem fantastic,my stats weren’t that long.but then,i didn’t get into an ivy league.do u need finaid though?that’s a big factor(as it was for me).
ahhhh, friday again.got all my midterms back and mostly A-s.i hate A-s.they suck big time.i even got an A/A-.like what the hell is that supposed to mean???
hope everyone enjoy their weekend!

UCLA’s a great school…jinFX congrats!!:D

hi rockao:)
your test scores are amazing!
hmm. i’d advise against listing awards like “fifth place in schoolwide … competition” because they’d clutter, more than add value to, your app, especially if you’re looking at schools like harvard, stanford etc.

ROCKao:
stunned by the test score…@@
in order to make it more possible to get in the school you want to, more ECA and awards are probably expected…
Are there any other safeties?
BTW: 北一女中 is really great. Done heard of it in mainland
and you should list things that is done in 9th grade. It won’t hurt

wow how can she be ranked 20th w/ a perfect GPA? all her stats are just too amazing but skools like harvard and stanford are just too unpredictable to say ur garunteed… maybe apply to princeton and williams too lol (b/c princeton is gurateeing aid for internationals)
