US cross 38th parallel => million times more deaths for pretty much every military involved… it gave China extra access to MiG 15s (pretty much the only substantial MiG ever)… brought China into the Cold War (but didnt hand the USSR any advantage since we had already hated them)… made sure US got raped in Vietnam… and this one is the only unproven one: caused the split in Korea to last longer than it should have

so did the US gain from crossing 38th parallel? yea, hell of alot, but they’d be better off having not crossed cuz of Vietnam and splitting Korea

i wont be in berkeley until spring 2007…cant think of anyone in this thread who is there rite now either

ok utoyxc, I will stop by San Francisco Intl’ Airport on July 3. I will have approximately 5 hr if the plane doesn’t delay. Since staying in the airport for 5 hr is very likely to kill me, I am debating on whether I should go to take a brief tour of some attractions in the bay area, e.g. Golden Gate bridge, Chinatown, etc. Which place you suggest me to visit? I want to find a place which will not take me too long time to visit, and is also convenient to get to via reliable public transportation. Please give me some suggestions if you have any idea. Thanks!

lol 5 hours doesnt seem that bad I might have to sleep overnight at an airport. Going to orientation at UIUC then taking a train overnight to O’Hare Airport and then while away the hours until the flight to Hong Kong. Im expecting to be in the airport for like 12 hours.

I think I should go buy the lottery. Just met youknowme on CS. Out of like the thousands that play cs just happened to meet him on an aim server lol.

actually, i think that the golden gate bridge is the best thing to see, every film about sanfrancisco has a scene about the bridge.~~ and although i haven’t been in the chinatown there before,i guess it would be about the same as those chinatowns across the US continent.
there’s TVs in the airport, maybe you will find something you like there, and i always go to the stores one by one when i was waiting in the air port, i don’t want to risk, because sometimes the traffics in big cities aren’t that reliable, in december 2005, i almost missed the airplane because of LA’s bad bus!
so, i suggest just stay there, you will find some thing interesting in such a big international airport!

although there’s a lot of sichuan food resturants, they are mostly managed by Taiwan or Guangdong people, so i feel the real sichuan food could only be found in sichuan!

may i ask a question?
how many of you guys have a girlfriend or boyfriend?
how do you think about having a girlfriend/boyfriend, is that good or bad
and how do you think about the culture about it in China ?

not me

i dont want a girlfriend, but i try hard to get girls to like me and/or see how they feel about me

all i know is whats on tv

The sichuan food in the US are mostly pretty ridiculous. Only sichuan resturant Iv ever been to that actually taste like real sichuan food was in Chinatown in New York. Worst one I have seen so far was a sichuan resturant with Chinese style buffalo wings. Im like: “WHAT THE ****!”

thx utoyxc. so even the subway is not reliable? (I think it’s called bart or something like that) anyway I guess it’s not a big deal b/c I don’t find any train going to golden gate.

I don’t have one gf, and I don’t think you can simply consider having a gf/bf as good or bad. if you really like someone, and that person also likes you, why not get into a relationship? but if you want to get one just because everyone else has one, i would say that’s not a moral thing to do. also, it’s really hard to say whether chinese’s perception of teenagers’ love is good or bad. on one hand, many teenager lovers can’t or are afraid to be together b/c of people surrounding them. on the other hand, this kind of culture has made teenagers so naive (hmmm i can’t find a better word), e.g. even a hug or a kiss is a big thing. but in fact, many people in developted regions, especially cities along the coast, are often westernized and are usually cool about this.

Actually, i think the subway itself is trustworthy, but I sometimes miss lines, and I found it so hard to get everything right in a city that i was not very familiar with. so, where are you going to?
