when wharton kids speak, others listen…

Thanks tangsdaily and me.duh…I didn’t think about these differences…wor it seems that there are a lot of adjustments i need to do if I go back home.
But you can only stay here if somebody wants to hire you right?
Does anybody know how long it takes for F1 visa to apply for a green card?
Again, thanks a lot guys :-)

F1? I’d suggest going H1 before applying.

hey i’m from Taiwan too!!! I came to the US about 2 years ago, currently a junior in high school!! Home languages are Mandarin and Taiwanese, but I also speak english(of course), little japanese, and spanish!!! I was born in Taipei, but raised in Keelung!!

I dont think there is a language called Taiwanese lol. People in Taiwan speak the Fujian dialect of Chinese.

i m in PA too. what’s ur asl?

How many people here speak multiple “Chinese” languages?

I do Mandarin and I can understand the Sichuan dialect, but when I speak it, it sounds really weird.

i can understand and speak both putonghua and beijing dialect

hey youknowme, are u chinese also?? or asian whatever!!!
i’m 16 female, scranton, what about u

youknowme, isn’t the Beijing dialect basically standard putonghua?

Mandarin (I was born there)…Cantonese (I grew up in HK)…Hangzhou Dialect (Picked it up a few years ago from my mom)…Taiwanese or Fujian Dialect from my uncle who is from Taipei, Taiwan (Understand but cannot speak)
and Shanghai Dialect (my grandparents speak Shanghai Hua)…yea…that’s pretty much it…

scranton? have you ever seen that show the office (american version)? hehe

and I’m pretty sure beijing dialect is different than putonghua

i can understand putonghua and nanchang dialect, and i can read both traditional and simplified!

hmm, i can only speak mandarin. that’s not fair to me. coz everytime when other ppl speak their dialect I have no clue, but when i speak everyone understands. :(

It’s okay. Buy one of those “Bai Ren Kan Bu Dong” shirts and you’ll feel special. :D

…

The previous post cant get more random.

Anyway does anyone know whats worth buying in China besides pirated software? I have some money left and its a pain in the butt to convert it to USD so might as well spend it.

Pirated music/movies?

i’ll say that the most economical thing for you to buy is service, just spend your money on anything you can enjoy…like resturant, like man-power cars…etc,

anything involved in labor are so expensive elsewhere, so take advantage of that in China…

I dont think you can bring piracy things back to US, thats like smuggling things,

You can, but don’t hoard massive amounts, you’ll attract the attention of customs. My mother usually brings a few movies here and there everytime she travels back, but she tells horror stories of her friends getting caught (they just got the stuff confiscated).

Last time I brought back 20 dvds and 20 cds, at the very least. Just take them out of their cases and put them in CD holders. By those too. I got 2 for 5 RMB each. =D
