Hello everyone.I am a student from Myanmar.I have two choices for my future. One is to attend Bachelor degree in Dentistry in my country for 6 years, then I will attend Master degree in Bangkok,Thailand for 2 years. After that,I will become a dentist.Another choice is to attend 2 years of Diploma in Business by NCC Education by British system in my country.I can able to attend final year of Bachelor degree in Business in UK and 2 year of Master degree in Business. For me,both are good enough.I can’t choose which subject should I attend. Some say that I can earn a lot of money wiith UK Business degree. Some say I can attend MBA anything and not everyone can attend Dentistry and only rare people have chances to attend. Please help me choose.I appreciate your comments.Thank you.
What work do you want to do?
Have you shadowed a dentist?
Business is a very flexible degree, since it gives you education in a lot of different areas (business ofc, marketing, psychology, behavioural sciences, economics, mathematics) and it’s a well-sought-after degree. Dentistry is also well-sought-out, but it’s not as flexible since you spend more time specialising in dentistry.
There are a lot of factors that could impact your decision. I’d recommend writing on some paper (paper tends to be more therapeutic than computer softwares) something like a pros/cons list that includes some of the following:
- Enjoyment/likeability (like PurpleTitan said, have you had any exposure to either businessmen or dentists?)
- Job growth in your area/country
- Cost of degree vs. average income over time
- Lifestyle of your ideal careers (e.g. dentists tend to have the same hours every week, whereas many businessmen will have varying or odd hours)
- Projected income
- Failure rates (unfortunately sometimes we'll just be unlucky)
There are way more factors that you can google. You can also talk to your school or a government careers advisor. They would have TONS of tips to help you decide.
