clarification

hi guys
iam basicaaly a international student from singapore
but i have a lot of relatives staying in the us who are green card holders
i recently heard from one of my friends that if my relatives are ready to sponsor me i wont be considered as a international student
so the fee structure and application process will be different for me
is this true??

Are those relatives your parents? Other green card holders won’t be able to sponsor you for a green card.

Permanent residents pay in-state tuition at their in-state public university and they can apply for federal, state and college sponsored financial aid just like American citizens. The application process is the same regardless of your immigration status but you would be in the regular application pool instead of the more competitive international pool.

thanks barium
actually my uncle is a green card holder
though he is not a blood relation
so will i still enjoy the benefits that you mentioned(more fin aid packages)

Your uncle cannot sponsor you for a green card.

Here’s the website of the Department of State about family-based immigration. It says that green card holders can only sponsor their spouse and children for immigration. (US citizens can sponsor other relatives like siblings or parents as well)

The website of the United States Diplomatic Mission to Germany makes it even clearer:
