Clark Scholars 2010!

Everyone: How long were your essays?!

I had a lot to say so I wrote 1500 words for the “Area of Research” and 2000 for the “Narrative”. Does anyone think that it’s a bit too long? Thanks!

Sent my app in, missing one recommendation. (snow days ftl).
I’m not feeling very good about this app, but w.e. My fault for procrastinating.

Um…my essays were a lot shorter…are they going to think I’m lazy now? Ugh.

Mine were too. How did you fit 2000 words into one page?

^ Mine filled up the whole space and I had to adjust margins and font size as well and it only totaled up to 754 words …

So how many people from CC applied? And what were your fields?

Also my essay is about 550 words. Iceui you definitely dont have 200 words for the narrative because it is only one page. Also, I think 1500 words is too long for the areas of research. Mine is about 400 words.

^That makes me feel better. Thanks. I tried to show my interest in a concise manner.

Yeah. I think you should explain where your interest lies but it shouldn’t be a second essay IMO. Its fine to explain genetic engineering for microbial fuel cells for biology but dont explain your life story! :D

^Exactly.

I fit mine in one page, single-spaced, with 11 pt font. and slightly reduced margins.

My narrative and research stuff took up all of a whopping six and three quarters sentences.

Wait, really? How…? Together? Wow, you truly are laconic.

I remember blueducky’s was also about a page long.

I was kidding.

Research Interests: 224 words

Narrative: 524 words

My research interests ended up only being about 100 words. Oh well. I think I explained well enough what I wanted to do EE with microprocessor design :D

Lol fail I didn’t see the “fit this into one page” thing. Ok so mine ended up to be around 900 words for the narrative. Since there is no space limit for the research interest, it’s still at 1500 words because I went into a lot of detail in what i want to do. :)

Wait I was kidding too.

Research Interests: 930 words
Narrative: 1102 words (squeezed it in with 10-point font on 0.8-inch margins)

Im not a very concise writer so I tend to get wordy. I just hope they don’t throw it out because it looks too long. -_-

Anyways I mailed mine today so hopefully they’d still accept it. Good luck to eveyrone.

did you rush it? or overnight it, because if not, you should be concerned…

mine only were about 250 for research interests (i was specific but not too much)
and 650 for the narrative…

wow y’all are so accomplished and have interesting research fields! Last year half the scholars are CCers. Hopefully many of you will get in too.

I anticipate a very large UChicago-esque increase for this year’s applicant pool. San Fran will be pleasantly surprised.
