Class of 2013 from Nepal

@EVERYONE:
Another round of questions about JACOBS ADMISSIONS.

Does which school you chose(or show interest in), the Sciences or the Social Sciences have an effect on your chances?

How many people (roughly) from Nepal are applying to Jacobs?

@BNKS8: I have not found any college suitable for me yet.

@DVwinner09
i guess there are more than 90 ppl from Nepal who are applying to Jacobs on Rd 1 together with Rd 2.
Lets guess in figures:
BNKS=25
SXC=30
RBS/Malpi/Lincoln/other +2 colleges=35

Jacobs yespali lastai competition ma chha -coz stds wth best scores le ni ramro college paayeko chhaina ajaipani and economic crisis in USA has seriously injured international admission process.Nevertheless for those with low SAT scores, mind it JUB is an academic based college rather than SAT and essay.

@everyone
WPI le ta malai 23000$ ko aid diyo but aru mail nai reply gareko chhaina .I am already admitted but financial need based aid nai aayeko chhaina.

Brigham Young University,Utah - decisions are out -Admitted .

@mitscholar
BYU ma u paid app fee or the fee was waived? And kati scholarship u got in BYU?

And yes definitely…jacobs is academics based…one of my friends from GBS with 1770 SAT AND 80+% in +2 was admitted in round 1.

@DV VICTIM
m in ktm

@BNKS8
BYU le ke nai po aid dinchha ra yaar.diye pani aahile aid ra scholarship kehi aayeko chhaina.I paid my application fee of 30 $ .I just thought that it is the right kind of safety-more reputed than any other safeties and LACs safeties so.

I was deferred from RD to till April 30th from Jacobs - K garnu TU ko % nai dherai aaudaina ani SAT scores are not so bad.( means good bhanda kam)

for those who are already admitted into best colleges will surely withdraw jacobs .but my requests are for those who got into average colleges but with good aid-please please withdraw from jacobs before the end of april first week.
From april 2nd week they shall begin sending the mails .so!!!

@mitscholar
that means u will give up BYU for jacobs?

@dallo
bro 8132 will give up calvin for jacobs right?

Has anyone heard from wabash and hampden sydney?

@DVwinner09
I think that choosing a major might also have some influence in decision making. As to Jacobs, the most popular major are EECS,ECE,BCE and BCCB. ECE has a ,good share of nepali students who is doin well so JUB has faith in Nepali students in this subject.Same with BCE major and BCCB, chem where people are doin really well.If u have great grades in physics math then chosing the physics, ece major might have an edge. IF good in bio then BCE,BCCB, chem. opting for ess and logistic is a good safety. But never opt for Math, CS. And fellow class of 2012’IUB applicant if selected anyone interested in changing to Math major,that would surely create history as no nepalese till now have ever tried math.

After accepted when u arrive here u can easily change ur major.

If u have opted for logistic engineering then also there is a lot of chances of being accepted. And the best choice is ESS, It has very few students so if u apply as a Earth and space science major u have higher chance to get in. there are only 3 people studying ISS(Integrated social science).

This year there are 5 third year students who will be graduating so the intake might be around 10-15. As there are already 1 from hastings, 2 from last year and 2 more in first round I dont know how many jacobs will be taking. But Admin here is not happy with nepalese bonding nature, change in JUB policy might affect the no of acceptance.

So among u tally how many applied to one major , if they accept they will look at diversity.

last year I had campared all the score from my high school,and that had given some hope for me.

@mitscholar
one of my friends got acceptance in depauw and has to pay around 12k. He is a silent viewer of this thread. If you are reading this thread, plz reply to mitscholar
about the WPI things, didn’t wpi ask 13.5k to @everyone???
the hampton guy had also applied in wpi, he was asked 2 pay 20k!!!

@MCCCLIII
“But never opt for Math, CS.”
I chose CS as my 1st choice. Is it bad??? PLese let me know!!

“But Admin here is not happy with nepalese bonding nature, change in JUB policy might affect the no of acceptance.”
What did you mean by bonding nature… a bit confused…???

thankx

@puredreams
the course is totally different and we are never exposed to Computer science teaching in high school so we might be on backfoot for the subject. Here CS is totally math the algorithms and all, and math I mean by abstract math not the calculus thing. Even for EECS there are only two taking EECS in second year and one senior who has graduated in EECS. But u never no. EECS would have been the better option as it has EE and we have some knowledge in that thing.

and since there are many nepalese so generally we dine together during lunch and dinner. Romanians have the biggest diversity. romanians have their table and bulgarians and so we nepalese. but admin feel that this has hampered the diversity of international students. so they are planning to take at least 25 german so as to foster diversity. So as there are already 45 nepalese so there might be some cutoff in the intake this year. and this is goin to happen as to the admin. but this years applicant pool looks the strongest so u never know …

^^
In short, is it okay to major in CS? Or does it depend on the person?
any cons if we major in CS?

My case:
Programming Language: C++, HTML, X-HTML, PHP, CSS, My SQl, Javascript
Planning to learn till August: Ms Access and Ajax

@MCCCLIII
As far as i have known from my seniors i am told that the “Computer and E engineering” major is considered as one of the strongest majors in the university and is one of the toughest in the world…this is the opinion of the guys who r the graduates from jacobs…about 7 batch senior to me. Please dont make out any other sense. Can u please tell me how much tough is the mathematics major in jacobs and how strong is it taken there? It would be a great help to me if u could PM me about the intensity of toughness of mathematics, its recognition in the world and several others things… yours as well as others opinions and facts about the maths major in jacobs. Please write to me each n every things that u know…please^infinity

@bnk8
is it okay if MCCCLIII posts his reply here rather that PM you?? it might be of great help for other jub hopefuls too!
