Class of 2014 Wall of Shame

Now this is a good time-pass! :)

Dear donod,

I would like to thank you for your application to Franklin & Marshall College. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you a place in the Class of 2014.

I understand that this news is not what you were hoping to hear, but you should know that the applicant pool this year was particularly strong and competitive. Given the applicant pool, the Admission Committee had to make very difficult decisions due to the College’s increased selectivity.

The Admission staff joins me in thanking you once again for your interest in Franklin & Marshall. It is my sincere hope that you will have a fulfilling and successful academic experience.

Sincerely,
Penny G. Johnston
Director of International Admission

March 26, 2010

Dear 3333,

Thank you for your application to Wellesley College. The Board of Admission has completed its deliberations and regrets to inform you that we cannot offer you a place in the Class of 2014. Your application was carefully reviewed and we recognized your many accomplishments. Most of our applicants had excellent high school records and outstanding personal qualities. We simply did not have room for all of the superb students who applied to Wellesley this admission season.

Please note that this is the only notification you will receive of your decision and that all decisions of the Wellesley Board of Admission are final. We appreciate the time and care you took in providing us with your credentials and wish you success as you pursue your education.

Sincerely,
Jennifer C. Desjarlais
Dean of Admission and Financial Aid

Hello donod,

The International Admissions Committee has reviewed your application for admission to Oberlin College and regrets that we are unable to offer you admission to the College of Arts and Sciences.

We expect that our decision is disappointing to you. We have had our largest and most talented international applicant pool ever; there were many more qualified applicants than available spaces. Consequently, we have had to disappoint a significant number of those who applied for admission including many who we are confident would have thrived at Oberlin. We assume that you will have other choices and believe that you will make a good selection.

An official, hardcopy letter of decision has been mailed to you but we wanted you to know our decision without delay. We wish you all the best in your search for a university or college that is ideal for your interests and needs as you continue your education.

Sincerely,

Charles Grim
Senior Administrator for International Development
Oberlin College of Arts & Science

Dear donod,
The Admission Committee has completed its review of applications for Connecticut College’s Class of 2014.After a careful and thoughtful review of your academic and personal credentials, regretfully, we are unable to offer you admission to the College.

This was a particularly difficult decision for us to reach. Connecticut College received 5,298 applications, the largest number of applications in our history, for 500 places in next year’s class. Needless to say, competition was unusually keen and the Committee faced many difficult choices. In the end, we had to deny admission to many applicants who, like you, would add much to our community. I know it may be difficult to understand our decision and I appreciate your disappointment.

Thank you for the compliment of your interest in Connecticut College. Best wishes for a successful and memorable college experience.

Sincerely,
Martha C. Merrill '84
Dean of Admission & Financial Aid

Dear donod,

Thank you for your interest in Middlebury College. The Admissions Committee has recently completed its deliberations, and I regret to inform you that we are not able to offer you admission to next year’s entering class.

Please be assured that we have given your application full and careful consideration, based on all of the materials which you submitted to us. Our decisions have been very difficult ones, especially in light of the quality of the applicants in our pool this year, which was the largest and strongest in Middlebury’s history.

Again, we appreciate your interest in Middlebury, and please accept our best wishes for success and happiness in all of your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Robert S. Clagett
Dean of Admissions

Waitlist= Slow Rejection damn this recession!!!

Dear 3333,

The Admission Committee has completed its review of applications to Connecticut College for the Classof 2014. We were very impressed with your academic and personal record but our limited funding for international students does not permit us to offer you a place in our class at this time. However, we invite you to accept a position on our Scholarship Waiting List.

Connecticut College received 5,298 applications, the largest number of applications in our history, and nearly 600 of these applicants were eligible for our limited number of international scholarships. Needless to say, competition was intense and the Committee faced many difficult decisions. We will know if any additional offers of admission for the fall can be extended to international scholarship students after May 1, 2010.

To secure your place on the Waiting List, please complete and return the attached reply form as soon as possible but no later than May 1, 2010. You may also fax your response to us at the number below. Please include a fax number or e-mail address so we may contact you quickly since Wait List activity often occurs within a short period of time. Only students who return this form will be considered active candidates on the Waiting List. In the interest of other students on our Waiting List, kindly let us know if your plans change as early as possible.

You have much to offer Connecticut College, and we hope you will remain on our Waiting List. If you have any questions, please contact Scott Alexander, Associate Director of Admission, at scott.alexander@conncoll.edu. Thank you for the compliment of your interest in Connecticut College. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Martha C. Merrill '84
Dean of Admission & Financial Aid

@donod,
How many did u apply to?

March 24, 2010

Dear donod:

The members of our admissions committee have completed their review of applications for admission to the next entering class at Colby. Given that you thought enough of the College to apply Early Decision, I am especially sorry to report that the committee is unable to offer you a place in this class.

While it may be of small consolation, you were part of an extremely competitive admission process at Colby. Applications for first-year admission to the College once more exceeded 4,200, and my colleagues and I are able to enroll an entering class of only 490 students.

Such a highly selective process inevitably begets disappointment for many capable, accomplished, and interesting students, and to a greater extent than you can imagine, we share this disappointment. We appreciate the time and effort you spent to explore Colby as a possibility for college and are sorry that this news regarding your application could not have been positive.

You have our warmest wishes for success as you continue your education.

Sincerely,

Steve Thomas
Director of Admissions

@*400# many… :D

Dear NoHandlebars:

The admission committee has concluded its evaluation of applicants to Northwestern University. I am sorry we are unable to offer you a place in the freshman class.

Given the relatively small size of the incoming freshman class and the strength of the applicant pool, we cannot admit all of the qualified applicants who apply to Northwestern. You should not feel our decision reflects negatively on you or your potential as a college student. We simply are unable to admit all of the students who present a solid record of achievement.

The task of selecting a class is a difficult one for the admission committee. We carefully reviewed every piece of information you submitted with your application. Unfortunately, we cannot provide specific reasons why each individual decision is made. The document linked here, A Statement from the Dean, may answer some of your questions about our admission process.

The admission committee appreciates the time and effort you put into applying to Northwestern. I wish you every success as you pursue your education.

Sincerely,

Christopher Watson
Dean of Undergraduate Admission

I got rejected by Northwestern too, so pretty much the same.

Donod, how many did you get accepted to?

This is seriously kinda depressing.

We need to counter this with a Wall of Pride -acceptances only! :D

Dear «FirstName»,

The Admissions Committee has carefully reviewed your application to the University of Chicago. After much consideration, I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you a place in the Class of 2014. This year’s applicant pool was the strongest in the university’s history; in light of this, we were unable to offer admission to every worthy applicant.

I recognize that this message may come as a disappointment to you. Nevertheless, I encourage you to make your future educational plans with the same enthusiasm and initiative that led you to consider us.

We appreciate the interest you have shown in the University of Chicago. Best wishes as you pursue your educational goals.

Sincerely,

p.s. i got another of the same, instead with the actual name instead of <<firstname>>
i thought this was doubly hurtful, so here it is. LOL.</firstname>

quasi, here’s another of the same for us:

Dear sora2712:

After a thorough review of your application for admission to Amherst College, the Committee on Admission has decided, with regret, not to hold a place for you in the Class of 2014.

Nearly all of the candidates whose applications we reviewed were academically qualified and had the enthusiastic support of their teachers and guidance counselors. Selecting among those applicants was a daunting task. Be assured, however, that each application was reviewed at length, that recommendations were scrutinized, that transcripts were interpreted with care, and that every case was reviewed more than once.

Our decision does not represent a judgment of your capacity to do successful work here, nor is it an estimate of the contribution you might have made to Amherst. Rather, that decision is a reflection of the fact that we had a record 8,085 applications from which to select a first-year class of 465 people.

I am confident that your interest in Amherst is a significant reflection of your high aspirations and that those aspirations will serve you well in your collegiate experience and beyond. I appreciate your interest in Amherst and wish you much deserved success in the future.

Sincerely,

Katharine L. Fretwell

Director of Admission

Senior Associate Dean of Admission

P.S. If you would like to receive a formal hard copy of our decision on your candidacy, you may request one by phoning our office at 413-542-2328 or emailing admissions@amherst.edu.

**WTBLEEP NO, I DO NOT WANT A HARD COPY REJECTION. LOLL.

i can laugh in retrospect.

LOL me too. Don’t you just LOVE the last paragraph?! xD. We have high aspirations, yo. HAHAHAHAHAHAH SUCKAS.
