^Yes, miss?

Professor (like in HP!), Sir, Miss, by their name, Mr or Mrs (Surname), Teacher-sir, Teacher-miss…

This is all hypothetical. I use Ma’am almost exclusively, even (generally accidentally) for my one male teacher.

We’ve all been victims to the sir-ma’am mix-up :p

haha, i usually go ms (whether theyre married or not, its easier to say) and sir&/mr.
and doctor for out principle.
i’ve said mr. instead of mrs. plenty of times. lol.
cultural differences indeed…

hello, i am a prospective international student, and wanted to ask if any1 could help me by rating my chances to get into princeton…
firstly, i havent taken the tests yet, but im hoping to cut the 2100 mark (which is reeeally hard for me since i only decided to apply this yr in september, and in austria we had a completely way of studying)
i have got a looot of extracurricular activities, including sports (badminton, women´s soccer, snowboarding with won championships), community service (some projects, like building a playing ground for an integrative kindergarten and fix up an asylant´s home in vienna), political activity (boardmember of two student orientated clubs that organize festivals, seminars and that stuff), in my school i have been responsible for caring for exchange students, school paper, organized a festival (4000 visitors) for a refugees initiative, and lots of other stuff like that (i paint, write and sing, too)
i also spent half a yr abroad, in england.
we do not rank in our school, plus we have a completely different school system, but id guess im in top 10%
the thing is, my grades are not so strong… i got a d in maths in my senior yr.
also, my dad teaches at princeton which is one of the reasons why i would love to study there, i could be with my family more often…
ive been told (by a current princetonian and a princeton graduate from sumtime in the 80ies, that my essays are really strong
im really curious about the american university system
what do you think?? thanks, i appreciate every reaction =)

A different way of studying is not an excuse. We all have differing educational systems.

THAT SAID, Princeton is a crapshoot for everyone, but it seems like with strong academics and ECs you have a shot. I don’t know how much the D will hurt you. Possibly a lot, but the fact that your Dad is currently a prof will help you. Do well on those SATs, I guess. And you might want to make a thread on a different subforum so that CCers who are more knowledgeable than I am can help you out.

Hey, I think you’re best off asking people on the Princeton forum. You seem like a fairly strong applicant (with the exception of that D: NOT GOOD), and like Quasi said, it’s all a huge crapshoot after a point. Just give it your all, paint a genuine portrait of yourself, and hope for the best. Good luck!

@Quasi: lol, in my school we call them professors like in HP too, and we have a headmaster haha.

We have sirs…ma’ams and finally…the budhiya

@Tetris- Whats sacrilege?

The violation of something sacred.

nelesy: COOL!!! So are you applying to Hogwarts University as well? :P

In your case, alcohol was equated to sacrilege.

quasi: haha, nooo, I had enough of this Hogwarts for the past four years. Trust me, Hogwarts professors got nothing on my professors (or school staff in general) in points for weirdness…
Just few examples: Headmaster’s the size of Hagrid, the caretaker (not per-say but its closest to description) - we call her Lucifer(like the cat in Cinderella) or Gestapo and she might as well be Filch’s sister, I have a professor who’s exactly like prof. Sprout, the most notorious prof in our school is better known under the name THE DEVIL than her actual name (but really, if the name of our school ever comes up in a conversation, the first thing people ask is of this lady, everyone in this city knows about her), the library hours say its open from 1-3pm, you’re lucky if you find the librarian there for five mins at least one time in two weeks, our secretary is mad to the point where she’s cursing at everyone who has to go there for a signature or a stamp of any sort and we all think that one of these days she is physically going to attack a student…I can continue but that should be enough for now ^^

That’s one interesting school.

^ and THAT is an understatement

who was your fav char in the HP series?

The twins! :D

Hellz yes!

Hermione Granger. Until she gets all maternalish.

LOL. amen to above. i liked her when she was more spiky. or waspish. if you get what i mean.

Exactly!
How’s HSC going?
