Class of 2014!

@Quasi : What exactly is Sparknotes. I’ve heard of it but never bothered to look it up. Was too in love with my PR.

@Bilgunn : Should be. I guess it kinda depends. I had a pretty strong Physics background, it would even count as credit in college (I’m not sure if you guys would have that too, probably you would) so I knew most stuff in the book even though I graduated in like June and took the test in October. It shouldn’t be a problem to get 700+ for you. Are most of the stuff you’re learning now new?

btw, how often do you guys use english in comparison with indian in india?

If only I had studied freaking high school physics in school!

yeah, Quasi, tetris, how often do you use indian? ;)

gappy, yep. My physics background is really poor. I’ve studied only kinematics and optics. Other than that, zilch in everything! All this electricity and magnetism stuff is driving me crazy.

I just want a 700, please God.

sparknotes dot com, gappy. It’s an amazing place, look it up.

Bilgy: Depends on the socioeconomic status of the school and whether we’re urban, rural, suburban, whatever. I’d say tetris and I use English most of the time. Our schools teach in English. Bengali/Hindi/whatever is our second language.

Basically, it wouldn’t be far from truth to say that I am studying the whole brach of high school physics on my own. So, PR would be enough?

@Bilgunn - haha I commend you. I mean learning a whole new subject is hard, but electricity and magnetism? Wow. Speaking as someone who hated these. I think if you knew the PR material, you can swing 700+, or 750+ if you’re a good tester. Aim for 800. Aim for the stars, they say, because when you fall a little lower, it’ll still be good.

Grrrr gappy. Grrrrr.

@Bilguun: We don’t actually have a language called “Indian” :p. It’s a whole bunch of different languages thrown across the country.

EDIT: Yeah I almost exclusively use English, because that’s the medium in school, and because my Tamil (the local language over here) is rubbish.

I studied both electricity and magnetism today. I bugged gary quite a bit ;).

@tetris - My tamil is rubbish too. I can understand, but only if you don;t talk too fast. If you want me to string a sentence together, give me 5 minutes to remember the words please. Don’t even go into writing and reading.

Well. At least I know Malay. Saya sangat bangga. :D

tetris, ethnically speaking, are you Tamil? (Just curious) I’m a Gujju !!

Even I know Malay!!

Nasi- Rice
Mi- Noodles
Lif- Lift
Sos- Sauce
Polis- Police

I love malay spellings!!

Yeah, I’m a native Tamilian.

@gappy: Haha I can read and write actually! Although I haven’t written since…five years ago. I know just enough conversational Tamil to get by (do know that I speak “pidgin Tamil” :p)

Do you have a general term for all the languages spoken in India then? How different are the different languages? Tamil and Punjabi, Sanskrit?

All those giving physics- The Americans are noobs at physics and the curve is REEEEEALLLY lenient. Like 10 questions or something on SAT o.O Even for the credit giving AP Physics C you can get through with 3-4 days of self study without any prior knowledge except a lil calc coz the curve for a 5 is like 60-70% :P

@gary - Not all of us are geniuses.

I see where Bilgunn is coming from. After all, people say the Chinese language, even though there are so many dialects.

tetris are you from south india? just asking cause i’m malayalee.

Mhm, I’m Tamilian. Right next door to Kerala :D.

@Bilguun: It’s a regional thing. Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi are similar up to an extent, since they’re all common up north. Tamil and Malayalam are pretty similar as well, and they’re both southern languages.

ah okay. just saw the previous post.

Languages- even a decade ago, india had at lest 14 languages with >10 million speakers. And HUNDREDS of vernaculars :P
