***Class Of 2015 NMSF Qualifying Scores***

@Edwong post 3011: I’m sorry to say that your grades will disqualify you. You will not make Finalist with 3 Cs, any Ds/ 3.3 unweighted GPA. ECs and Senior courses/grades can’t help you. If you are looking for score-based scholarships, try for something based on SAT or ACT scores.

DS’s school took out a full page add in the Sun Sentinel (Florida), complete with group picture to honor their semi-finalists and commended scholars, which I think was a very nice thing for them to do.

@celesteroberts When I called NMSC, the lady on the phone told me they would only look at the highest SAT score, and I could either send just that score, or send all scores and have them filter it out. There’s no space to put AP scores or any other standardized test scores on the app, as far as I can tell. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong!

If someone really wants to get creative and wants their SAT II scores to be seen, they could always list them under the Academic Honors section of the online application. Maybe not exactly what it was intended for, but the scores will certainly at least be seen by the committee reviewing applications.

Again, it depends on what the goal is after making Finalist. If a student is interested in any of the school sponsored scholarships, all that matters is making Finalist and declaring that university as their first-choice school eventually. The only time that your SAT I score matters above 1960 or SAT II scores (if creatively reported) would matter would be if a student is hoping for the $2500 one-time.

Suppose the semi finalist has a parent who works for a sponsoring corporation. Does the SAT matter then??

@Dobsieguide‌ , tell me a school and I will list the names. Maine, right?

@saismom It may matter if the corporation has more semifinalist children of employees than awards they have available. In those cases the other parts of the finalist application may also matter more. The company DH and I work for usually has more scholarships that semifinalists. In that case, I don’t think the actual SAT score matters as long as it meets the NMF minimum confirming requirement.

From the information accompanying the finalist application under the heading

Just above this it also indicates that the actual PSAT and SAT scores are also considered.

@numbersfun the Bangor area would be helpful… there’s no help up here… Thanks

When submitting SAT scores to become a finalist, all the SAT tests taken are to be submitted? Then super-scores are considered? Or just one best test is to be submitted?

The entire State of Maryland list has now been published. It is at this site: <a href=“Payday Loans Online | Paycheck Loans and Quick Cash Advances”>Payday Loans Online | Paycheck Loans and Quick Cash Advances;

Bangor HS - Samuel Kenney and Hannah Rubin. Is this the school?

@numbersfun yes…Bangor High School located at 885 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401

Any Oklahoma list yet? Thank you to all who are posting state lists.

Congratulations to everyone (and myself. :))

does anyone recommend a good online PSAT course? i’m looking to prepare for next month. i know i’m a little late but any tips are appreciated

Do you have the big blue book @sport12kid? It’s for the SAT, but the tests are extremely similar. Practice using real tests (PSAT or SAT), and after each section, really focus on the ones you got wrong and why. You will learn from this. Good luck!

@numbersfun Do you know the SF list from John Bapst High in Bangor?

@sport12kid To add to what @PAMom21 said, skip the SAT essays for now. There is no essay on the PSAT. Otherwise the tests are very similar.

@sport12kid, when you register for the PSAT you should get a booklet that contains a full length PSAT practice test. If you don’t get that, complain. Last year my son’s HS didn’t receive, or else lost, the box of booklets. CB will send a new boxful to the HS if the HS calls for them, CB told me on phone. Also, the practice test changes every year. Somewhere here on CC someone has posted links to some old official practice tests. Probably in another National Merit thread, but not certain. Try searching PSAT. It’s much like the blue book, but the timing of sections matches the PSAT and the actual difficulty of questions (which are a bit easier than SAT), so it’s very good practice. Blue book is also great, especially since you prep for SAT at same time.
