***Class Of 2015 NMSF Qualifying Scores***

220??? That’s a five point jump from last year! Oh no!!! But congrats to you!!!

pasoccermom - isaelijohjac’s result isn’t the minimum; just evidence (so far) that 220 is not below the minimum.
But awesome! The postman cometh!

OMG!!! PHEW!!! I will calm down now!! Lol

…unless she knows another homeschooler with 219 and a similarly scheduled postman who got no letter. Say it ain’t so, isaelijohjac!

@isaelijohjac, thank you for posting and congratulations to your DC! To confirm, the letter says that the info is “confidential” but does it indicate that the student at your school (as in, your DC) can have this info before 9/10? This point of confusion at the some of the schools has been discussed previously in this thread, and so that’s why I ask. Again, congrats to your DC! Awesome news.

homeschooler in IL with no letter. So it looks if - not surprisingly - 213 is below the cutoff for Illinois.

OMG @pasoccermom For a moment there, I thought all the cutoffs were going up by 3-5 points and freaked out. . Hopefully, we’re seeing 1-2 points decrease though.

@isaelijohjac‌ Congrats on making NMSF! The wait is finally over for you!

@hs2015mom That’s actually surprising, considering that the second to last cutoff score for IL was 213. Best wishes to everyone out there currently waiting for their letters.

@hs2015 It might be too soon for you to assume that you’re out of the running! Not everyone will receive a letter today! Keep us posted :)

Don’t give up @hs2015mom‌ - keep us posted!!

@isaelijohjac‌, clarification, please. Is 220 your child’s score, or is it the IN cutoff score? It doesn’t seem likely that IN could go up 5 pts further from last year’s all time high of 215. But, then again, anything is possible.

The letter states (It is specific to me as a homeschool parent) “except for Semifinalists and their families, this information is confidential until Sept. 10 when the NMSC will release the names of the 160000 semifinalists”. My login information is listed in the letter and once I log in it gives me access to a letter to give to my student where she is given her log in information and asked to keep it confidential (in the family) until the 10th". So, clearly the students are supposed to have access right away.

@hs2015mom, please do not give up! We’re talking about mail delivery here and that can absolutely fluctuate from location-to-location. I am rooting for you still! Give it a day or 2, though I know it is hard.

@hs2015mom I agree with all the other posters. Like I said before, the cutoff score two years before was 213, and most posters on this thread agree that the cutoff scores will go down, so hopefully you’ll receive your letter in the mail soon

Thanks all. We’re two miles away from NMSC, so it would be hilarious if if there were unusual delays with the mail.

@hs2015mom - don’t assume their mailings come from their office. Most company’s do not. I work at a big company and we use printers all over the country. The return address may say IL but it could have been mailed from KS.

@hs2015mom, Someone mentioned that they might mail out the lists with some time intervals so that they arrive at the same or at least at similar time points. If it is a possibility, proximity is not a factor deciding the arrival time.

Okay, let’s do this! Anyone can update, and please everyone check for errors along the way. Last year a 212 got transposed to a 221, or something like that, and panic resulted!!!
See the stickied FAQ thread in this forum for links to lists of previous scores.

After the press-release date in mid-September, qualifying scores will be available by phone from the NMSC. Here is the number to call–the receptionist will give you one “qualifying score” when asked.

National Merit Scholarship Corporation
1560 Sherman Avenue
Suite 200
Evanston, Illinois 60201-4897
Main Telephone: (847) 866-5100
Main Fax: (847) 866-5113

You can feel free to edit the list yourself. Or simply post your information and rely on others to edit it in.

If you have been notified that you are NMSF, post your score (and your state) if it is lower than the score already posted for your state. It will then become the lowest know qualifying score and be indicated as “<=”.

If you have reliable knowledge of what the qualifying score for your state is (try asking whoever notifies you!), post it here, too. It will become the definitive cut-off score for your state indicated by “=”.

Finally, if you know that you did not qualify and had a reasonably high score, it can also be useful to post your score as an example of the highest non-qualifying score. This can be indicated by “>=”

Please note: Be conscientious as you post scores on this thread–it would be crushing to be led to believe you have made the cutoff by a post but actually haven’t. But everyone should be tolerant of mistakes, too. This is an unofficial source of information derived from a collaborative process and is not, therefore, guaranteed.

Commended (national cutoff) = 201

I thought commended cutoff dropped to 201 this year.

@PAMom21 – Thanks so much for starting this! As for commended, I thought it was at 201 this year?
