Class of 2017 Hopefuls!

reading 2400bro’s comment I figured in order to produce that big of a reaction, the essay had to have been either just a copy-paste image of Waldo or professionally edited x 10.

I wouldn’t be surprised if someone actually did copy-paste the image of Waldo. Just like the guy who only wrote “This is courage” in his What is courage? essay. lol

When I said “die” I meant died laughing at its wit. If that clarifies anything.

He honestly did laugh for a good minute or two. My alumni interviewer is currently a professor at a prestigious liberal arts college that I happen to live a few miles away from.

hahaha if what you said is true, I’ll love to read after the result. What’s ur basic stats? If those stats are decent and your essay so full of ‘wit’ that the alumni interview laughed for a minute or two, I’m pretty sue you can make it

I have had a pretty rigorous course-load, state medalist in science olympiad, cross country co-captain, volunteered a whole month (40 hours a week) during the summer after my sophomore year.
My numbers are as follows:
my SAT is low, 1410/1600 (740 CR, 670 M)
my GPA is low: 3.4
So basically I’m hoping my essays and my displayed interest in the university gets me in. I know Chicago is a super reach for me, but I love the school.

We’ll see!

lol becuz ur nickname is 2400bro, I kinda thought u might have 2400 in SAT

My interview is todaayyyyyyyyy!!! This is actually happening!

Good luck michella!

I wonder when my interviewer will contact me…

It went really well. We just talked about Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Homeland, Breaking Bad… He was really laid back. Good luck to everyone else interviewing.

1) New York
2) A day or two late…
3) A long time! Every essay (except favorites, lol) went through a lot of revision.
4) Yeah. Barely. Talked about my favorite plays. It’s not that great, but I don’t think it’ll hurt me either.
5) Enemy
6) Enemy
7) Classics
8) Reach, but I think I’m a good fit and it’s not as much as a reach as HYP would be for me (if I were applying)…
9) 8.5 or 9? I really loved it, but I’m unsure about distance/weather, and will probably apply to a few other schools even if I get in early.

Just had my interview. My interviewer gave me a riddle, and we worked through it together for about 20 minutes. All in all, a very “UChicago” interview. :)

@suluclacdna: was that an alumni interview or an on campus interview?

also, glad it went well for you! :)

@2400bro: It was an alumni interview. Thanks for the positive sentiments. :)

my interview consisted of the interviewer asking me questions about uchicago and we just talked about the college in general…he didn’t ask me any questions about myself. is that normal?

1) Where you’re from
As goes my name, Nebraska
2) When you submitted your application
A little late, I had a family medical emergency but I emailed my admissions rep about it
3) How long/hard you WORKED on your app (very applicable for UChicago :P)
Struggled, for so long. Finally it all came out in one big burst. Literally 3 essays in the span of a week. Edited, revised, and submitted
4) Did you do the optional favorites essay?
Yes! Wrote about my favorite word, serendipity (most people write about favorite books, who can pick one?!?!)
5) The topic you chose for your creative essay?
My arch nemesis (my cat)
6) In your opinion, which was your best essay?
It’d definitely be my creative essay, I thought it was funny but also got serious and thought provoking
7) What you want to major in
International Relations/Poli Sci
8) Whether Chicago’s a safety/likely/reach school for you
I’d like to say that it’s likely, but in reality it’s a reach for everyone ): (especially with 10,000 applicants)
9) How badly do you want to go on a scale of 1 to 10?
10. Absolute 10. This is my dream school, curse those who are just applying as a backup :(

Hi guys, I am having my interview next week. Any tips?
Btw I live in Poland and I am very surprised that UChicago actually managed to schedule my interview :D

meowmeow1234: I had a similar interview in that my interviewer only asked me ~3 questions about myself – stuff like, “Why do you want to go to UChicago?” The rest of the time, my interviewer just talked about her experiences at UChicago, and I asked her a few questions about it.

Just a stupid question, did anyone else order those UChicago glasses they were sending for free? And did anyone else never receive them? I was really looking forward to them, but it seems UC was just teasing me. :(

^ Never got mine.

Just had my interview, it was amaaaazing  She said that she was glad I was being myself and didn’t bring a resume or other materials, so I guess do that? Maybe it was just my interviewer though. And have a lot of questions about their experience.

I never got glasses! …
