<p>Yes, that is correct. Now you know why I keep saying Tulane is one of the most generous schools out there, especially with merit aid. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that Tulane is also one of the more expensive schools out there, although very similar to most of its peer schools that are private, and not even too far off from some state schools with respect to their OOS costs (Michigan, for example).</p>
<p>With need based FA, some of that could still be in the form of grants, which like merit scholarships do not have to be repaid, but are not guaranteed for 4 years, either. And of course, the merit scholarship is factored in as an asset when the FA calculations are made. Still, for many families it is quite a savings and a strong incentive to attend Tulane.</p>
<p>Gibson message says admissions committee has deferred into RA and we will get a decision no later than April 1. Is this standard, does anyone get rejected out of Early Action (not SCEA)? We have not visited – flights from our area are pricey so we were hoping to go visit if we received a positive response as NO is not within driving range for us. Thoughts anyone?</p>
<p>Very few seem to get denied in this round, but of course we cannot see every application and response. CC is so skewed towards higher achievers it might be we just don’t see the ones that get denied EA or SCEA on here.</p>
<p>My advice, if Tulane is truly a top choice for your child, is that you read that blog posting of Jeff Schiffman’s to which I provided a link yesterday, and have your child stay in touch with their admissions officer. Then if they should get in by April 1, there is still time to visit Tulane in April. They run almost daily sessions called Destination Tulane then, just for students such as yours that are trying to make this decision.</p>

<p>I have been on this thread since I applied to Tulane in the beginning of November, so I thought I would post that I was accepted today! I applied early action.
GPA: Unweighted: 3.95 Weighted: 4.93
ACT: 31
AP’s: Junior year:3(5,4,3 on the AP tests but I only submitted my 5 and 4) Senior Year:4
The rest of my classes I took all honors.
Varsity softball all 4 years and volleyball manager for 3 years
Involved in a lot of clubs however I lacked community service so I was a little nervous.
I did write the “Why Tulane?” essay but I did not visit so I thought that would decrease my chances as well. After updating Gibson repeatedly for the past month, I was greeted with congratulations today. This thread has been very helpful through out the process. Best of luck to everybody still waiting for a decision!</p>
<p>Visiting is always nice, but Tulane certainly knows that not everyone has the time and/or money to do so. The important thing is to show interest in some way, such as applying EA/SCEA and doing the Why Tulane.</p>

<p>@ taylorjacqueline - I have to infer, from reading this thread, that all merit awards are included with the acceptance letters. We were delighted when my son was accepted two weeks ago, until we realized that he received no scholarship offer. We do not know whether he will qualify for any needs-based financial need. If so, it probably will not be much. He remains very interested in Tulane, but it just might not make financial sense, since he has already been offered two generous merit scholarships.</p>
<p>fallenchemist - Of course you can misinterpret my comment any way you want, but I never implied or suggested that Tulane PROMISED me a decision within two weeks of app submission. Did I suggest that Tulane has broken a promise? No. Did I suggest that all applications are the same? No. Am I frustrated that I just happen to be one of the last students notified? Absolutely.</p>
<p>woogzmama, D checked gibson and saw a message telling her of her admission. then several days later the award letter arrived. why don’t you call admissions and ask them? i haven’t heard anyone else say that they got no award in the letter, but then I’m hard of hearing and short of memory.</p>

<p>bummer, wumanizer. That’s so disappointing. I’m sorry to hear this. Your first question is the next anxious thought to run thru the minds of thousands of students. Your second question is the next. Unless you have no matches or Tulane was your only match, there’s no reason now to worry about the other schools. Chances are you’ll be going to school next fall. Keep breathing. But don’t take any of this for granted.</p>
<p>Some time this week, find out who your admissions rep is and call him or her, express your disappointment, and thank him or her for continuing to consider your app. Explain how much you look forward to learning their RD in March and that Tulane remains very high on your priority list. Keep it brief. If you feel there’s anything missing in your app, or if you think Tulane fears you’re using them as a safety school, address those issues in an email. Then stay in touch with him or her as appropriate. Good luck.</p>

“defer” at this point. I just don’t know what they are waiting for. Why don’t they just send it already? We have been waiting since end of October. My son checks all the time.

<p>^I’m feeling the same way. I applied November 9th and at this point I’m expecting a deferral. I’ve been contacting my admissions counselor a lot trying to show interest, but at least point I feel like I’m not getting in.</p>

<p>Eastcoastkid… From reading everyones post, I think that if we haven’t heard already- then it’s a defer. What’s frustrating to me is that even before my son’s application was complete, his school had already accepted 8 people.( Oh and by the way his application was complete Oct 30th ) His school has never accepted more than 8 people in the past years… So after seeing that, I knew we were done. Very frustrating. Just send the defer already so we can move on. UGH!!!</p>
