SI for the confirmation score is calculated the same way as it was for the PSAT: (EBRW2 + Math)/10. So, for example, a 760 EBRW and a 720 Math would be (7602 + 720)/10 = 224.
NMSC doesn’t release the confirming score for the current contest. But it has never been below the Commended SI - which is 212 this year. That’s why you should be safe if your SAT SI is 212 or higher.
Did all of the semifinalist get notified already? My son has 226 and California has cutoff index 223, we didn’t receive anything from his school so far. Starting to worry… Anyone in the same situation? Thanks
It is up to the school if they notify the students before 9/12 (ours did). If you haven’t heard anything by 9/12 but meet the cutoff score then definitely talk to them.
@jinl11 - we are also still waiting in MI. Our school is apparently one of the ones that waits…although we know our DS has the score, it will be nice to have it official!
We were notified by mail over the weekend in IL (the school sent their own letters and a copy of the NMSC’s letter). So it’s now official, but it’s supposed to be “confidential” until the 12th (I don’t think that anybody can identify my kid’s school or name from my profile here…).
Now the work to write the application for finalist and scholarship begins…
@mountainmomof3 I know that my kid’s school has a breakfast for semifinalists, so if your school has something similar, maybe they want to hand out the official letters at that point.
Quick vent: I was just at the school for the Open House/meet the teachers night. I chatted with my son’s counselor quite a bit, and she didn’t say anything at all related to NMSF, not even a hint that tomorrow might be good news for some students. I had been thinking of asking her, but chickened out in the end. Now I feel sort of uncertain…ugh!
@Ranipetgirl I was wondering the same thing. No announcement on our school’s website this morning. Last year it came on Sept 15th. Maybe they wait until Friday to announce officially. I’m pretty curious which other kids at our school ended up NMSF. S19 knows five and they all run XC with him. Smart team this year!
Although the press release on the website is dated Sept 12, today, the site says it was released to the media yesterday, Sept. 11. Meanwhile, no news yet!
