Break legs @KaMaMom
Crossing everything! @kaMaMom
Praying, crossing, invoking âthe forceâ @KaMaMomâ !
My D went to a regular old public high school (not a PA school) of 1,200 kids. There were 5 kids in her graduating class applying for BFA MT programs. The kids gave the schools their cell numbers, and when it was decision season, the kids simply told the teachers that if they got a call from a certain area code they would be running out of the room to take the call. NOT ONE of the teachers mindedâŠthey were all very supportive. So yes, the calls come in during school, to (in most cases) the kidâs cell phones. I would suspect that many if not all teachers would be understanding and even excited for these kids. In fact, when my D got her âbig envelopeâ from Ithaca, I texted her (I was, of course, not allowed to open it), and her teacher let her log onto his computer to check her MyIthaca status (internet was blocked to the kidsâ cell phones in school). When she saw the âAccepted,â the whole class celebrated with her.
Also, keep in mind that not all schools call. Ithaca, BW, BoCo, NYU, Emerson, OCU - and many others - inform kids of acceptances via snail mail or email or portal statuses.
Break legs to all, and crossed fingers over here for you, @KaMaMom!
Each school is its own special snowflake. Total enrollment of 2400. 50% move on to BFA (drama, instrumental music, vocal music, visual arts, dance, technical theatre). 34 students in each class. 8 hour school day. It all adds up - or multiplies up. Teachers vary in their enthusiasm for interruptions in class - generally toward the low end of the spectrum. Zero cell phone tolerance just ended yesterday, which includes text messaging. It looks as though some kids are answering their phones. You also have to factor in the kidâs preference for privacy even when receiving good news.
Last year I had a kid come to me during a performance of the spring musical (I was backstage running the greenroom) and beg to use my ipad to check a school portal. They had seen on social media that a schoolâs acceptances/rejections were out on portal- and wanted to check (kids had to give up their phones for performance). I discouraged - STRONGLY, but eventually gave in. The update (which was for a school the kid had been confident would be an acceptance) was a rejection. Needless to say, the performance the student gave that day was not the strongest I ever saw from that person. Moral of the story- think about where you are and what you are doing before you look for information. (if it is in your control, unlike a phone call etc)
Yes, but the anxiety probably wouldâve done him in anyway. One of The Dâs friends knew that a school was making calls and was hoping for hers during a show night and she was a mess until the call finally came.
Thank you everyone!
Great audition, great dance combo (âEase On Down The Roadâ - I mean câmon, canât you just HEAR how fun that probably was?) ⊠she had a really good audition. They cut 3/4 of the girls and D stayed ⊠D had a mini breakdown last night so she really needed this. It was super good timing.
Auditions are done. Waiting continues.
I donât think Iâve heard of anyone here auditioning for WMU, but I know there are always tons of lurkers so âŠ
WMU said they would be making offers in the next week to a total of 15. And then they would go from there ⊠and it may take til May 1 to hear something.
Yay for walking away from an audition and feeling really good about it!
And yay for being done the audition phase of this process!
During dinner tonight, D gets a call from the 212 area code. Itâs Pace University!
Does she know about the FB page for accepted students? Did she send in her FAFSA? Does she have any other questions? GrrrrrâŠ
@19MT96 - Ouch!!
Thatâs awful! They shouldnât be able to call MT people in March for that kind of stuf!!
Especially when I knew they were making calls today! UghâŠfeeling so disgusted with this whole process at this point
Do we think Ball State continued their calls that started on Tuesday and theyâve finished? It seems odd that there hasnât been a bigger buzz than the three girls that got calls on Tuesday. This is going to be a long weekend and a longer month.
D got a call today!!! A âYes!â from OU. She is over the moon! <:-P
Congrats @addicted2MT! @19MT96â, ugh!! So sorry!! OMG!!!
@KaMaMomâ there were a couple of us at WMU today. Glad your D had a great day.
@mtmom2015 ⊠I wish I wouldâve known! We couldâve sat and chatted!
I saw your post that you were there after we left. No dancing for my S today⊠He finally got the upper respiratory gunk thatâs been going around. No voice to speak of. Ah, weâll. He got through 90% of the auditions in good health. Sorry I missed you!
@divamamacita ⊠did I mention that I know of a 3rd girl who has gotten a no via email (on the day the other 2 did) from BSU?
I still say if you havenât heard anything, that that is GOOD news!
