Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

@Thespiandad and @stage2nature - Good Luck! Have you called? I think someone else mentioned that they mailed everything out as of yesterday, so hoping you get good news and SOON!

Fingers crossed for you @divamamacita !

I think it is pretty poor that some schools haven’t released all their decisions by April 1, which is typically the final date by which most schools do so. Given that the National Reply Date (for applicants) is May 1, it seems only fair to allow families a month to weigh offers and decide. In fact, it is in the college’s own best interests to notify by April 1, because people are weighing the options they have in hand and so a school that notifies after April 1 may get short shrift if kids have been weighing options without that school in the equation.

I just found out tonight that one of my advisees hasn’t heard from Syracuse yet. Anyone else here in that same boat?

There was a post in The Ensemble today from a current Syracuse student who said that the last wave of decisions is going out tomorrow. I agree, Soozie, not great that schools haven’t notified by now. My Timehop told me today that a year ago today was when I had found out I had been waitlisted for Viterbo. I recall how being notified of my waitlist status so late in the game prevented me from visiting the school. Everything did work out in the end (thankfully!), but due to various circumstances (time being a huge one! airfare isn’t cheap when you have to book the week of…) I ended up committing to Viterbo sight unseen. It was a huge leap of faith, and one that I wouldn’t want anyone else to have to take unless they absolutely had to. I really do feel for everyone still playing the waiting game!

@CanadianMTgirl…thanks! Actually, I did hear the last wave from Syracuse is due to come out tomorrow. I just think that is LATE. And others are posting on this thread of still not hearing yet from a few other schools! The majority of colleges (not just for MT) notify by April 1 (as they should).

@Thespiandadā€Œ and @stage2natureā€Œ and @gingersnap97ā€Œ I still haven’t heard from Hartt too, and then Drake-- is anyone waiting for them still? I am the one who called Hartt yesterday and they told me that they sent the very last round of decisions yesterday.

For those waiting on Hartt – D declined a couple of days ago so a spot will be opening up! Hang in there everyone.

For those on wait lists, keep in mind that at many schools, just because someone declines the offer of admission, doesn’t mean a spot has opened up to take someone from the wait list. MANY (likely most) schools accept more students than spots in the class (there are exceptions…CMU and Otterbein come to mind). Then, typically after May 1, when they determine their yield, and if they haven’t yielded enough students for the spots available, then they go to the wait list.

Fingers crossed for those waiting on wait lists, though it could be a while for wait list movement to MOVE!

Good point @soozievt. Fingers crossed for all waitiing.

Can I just ignore the most recent post and assume that when someone declines a spot at my S top choice he is actually the only one on the wait list so he’ll get an offer?

That is the suspended disbelief I live in @Jrdiectortommy! Keep the faith and make plans for option B!

@jrdirectortommy i go even further and assume that they will open an extra spot just to up my son off the wait list…

@Thespiandad. I had a dream this week that Michigan called and said, ā€œYour ā€˜no’ was a mistake and we do, in fact, want & need your son in our program!ā€ ~sigh~

@soozievt we are still waiting on Syracuse. I find it ridiculous! We will be in that area on the weekend of the 11 and would like to know if we need to add a visit to the school or not. Considering we are coming from the West coast it would be really nice to be able to plan. Every day we wait, it goes further down on the list. Good thing we have other good choices to consider. Good luck to all of you out there still waiting… ~X(

@soozievt, in the business world we advise those interviewing for a job to pay attention to how the interview process is handled as to the quality of the organization you are applying to. I wonder if this applies in academic programs as well? Some schools have been remarkably more organized and thoughtful in their audition/application process than others. I can’t help but wonder if the last minute programs are under-resourced and if this would be reflected in the quality of the program, or at the very least dealing with administration at these schools.

Syracuse is pretty widely acknowledged as a good program.

Agreed @soozievt

I think whats happening for those of you who haven’t heard from programs is they like your kid and would rather offer them a spot outright as opposed to a wait list. I’m guessing the schools think you are more likely to attend their program if they offer you a spot as opposed to wait list then a spot.

I wish I could say that is true about Syracuse. But they send acceptances, rejections and wait lists with each wave sent.

That is true @vvnstar…and why on earth Syracuse feels the need to drag it out for three weeks is beyond me. I have tried to think of any kind of scenario by which it is beneficial to them (or anyone) and I can’t. Ego???
