It is crazy to think that this time last year we had just begun this process, D was just getting answers about pre-screens, and had not had her first audition. I went to see her school’s production of Oklahoma last night (excellent!), and D was exhausted because she had run two dance calls for the first round of auditions for the class of 2020. It does seem like yesterday!
@KaMaMom – nope – holding out for Christmas. Flights home are too pricey for a four day weekend – and two days on a plane. She will be at a friend’s house in Michigan. So, she will be fine.
My kid just texted me:
“BROKE MY FOOT A YEAR AGO”
=))
(I can’t believe it’s been a year! Wow!)
@kamamom Crazy how fast it went! I remember when you originally posted about that! I think I speak for most of the parents when I say we were all so caught up in everything audition related that we never thought about that kind of injury! But…just goes to show you how everything can work out just fine!
Anyone’s S o D getting ready for juries? D’s is coming up pretty soon plus a cabaret performance so although we are still nostalgic for the insanity and magic of this time last year, it’s still a little car cra. But, it’s all on her. For juries, she selects 8 bars of one song and 16 bars of another, both of which have been worked on in lessons, then the judging faculty member selects which song he or she wants to hear in its entirety. A little intimidating but exciting. Love that she still keeps us in the loop with these adventures.
My D was working on her cuts for juries when she was home for Thanksgiving. I hear snippets about how it’s going but I (sort of) miss the whole audition process! She’s been so busy she hasn’t had time to tell me how it’s going! But she’s loving the whole process!
Mary Poppins opens tonight!
I’ve been out to Boston twice since my daughter started school at BoCo - once for parent weekend, once for a performance she was in (which happened to be the same weekend as her voice studio recital). Just love it there…it’s such a perfect place for her, but it is hard to leave.
So … when it’s a Musical Theatre final, do you say good luck or break a leg?
Things a parent ponders as their kid gears up for finals week …

I wish that I had a class in college where you shoot a performance video of yourself for the final or your final is a “Dancing with the Stars” type prom complete with sparkly outfits (“Roots of Jazz” class final).
I with I could watch the jazz dance final, d said that her class has a lot of dance majors in it and they can really cut a mean Tango.
And how 'bout that Stage Makeup final?
@mom4bwayboy - can’t wait, daughter’s stage makeup final is tomorrow and she promised me a photo
Son’s stage make-up final was to create a Drag Queen persona, complete with name…he was Gigi
Not sure if it was the final (or a joke??), but S’s last pic looked like it was related to Sunday w/George - multicolored spots all over his face. I don’t remember having assignments like that. Maybe these kids could get side jobs doing makeup parties for frustrated stage moms (dads?) or rooms full of half-pint Elsa/Gigi wannabes.
One more day until my D gets home! We haven’t seen her since August!
After a very mild December, winter arrived in force at Western Michigan as d made her way back from Christmas break. Her flight from Chicago to Kalamazoo was canceled but she was able to hitch a ride with an MTP classmate (and her bff) who lives in Chicago. She had to slog her way across campus today with 6-9 inches of snow on the ground and what d called “blizzard” conditions. Her Michigan classmates are laughing at her for breaking out her Sorrels, LL Bean sub-zero down parka, and ski gloves (the temp is in the teens, but apparently this does not phase the locals - for a Texan this is the Arctic). She wanted to go somewhere it snows, so she got her wish!
She was cast in a role in “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” so she is ecstatic, despite feeling like she has landed in the middle of the Franklin Expedition.
She is scheduled to drive across Michigan and Ohio this weekend for OTA’s, but it will be interesting to see if that is feasible.
Haha! Wonderful description! We are native Michiganders… Snow is just a seasonal nuisance! Roads should be clear for her drive to OTA. :). My son is headed there as well. He’s at Wright, so it’s only a 2 hr drive.
@EmsDad … the storm that produced that snow at K’zoo was a bust here in Northwest Indiana. We were “promised” 3-6 inches and woke up to NOTHING. :((
We did get about 2 inches last night … but I’m a snow lover and this bust of a winter sucks.
(And yes, we’re a hardy bunch … I haven’t worn anything heavier than a hoodie as of yet this winter and my boots are still in the closet. I’m still wearing Toms.)
Ohio is a mess right now. Huge deep piles of snow and constant snow showers with blizzard flurries. And then we are expected to walk to classes on the ice. Yay!
lol.
@Destiny95 - not sure where you are from (and if this is your 1st midwestern winter), but weather in Ohio right now is really, really normal for the month of January… @KaMaMom - I finally broke out the boots yesterday
